Re: A short history of electronic music: the instruments and innovators that defined a genre

The reason for the more positive attitude towards Jarre in the past 15 years is because the people who grew up with his music are now music journalists and writers. The Dylan generation who hated his music have largely retired. I couldn't believe it when Mojo gave Jarre the lifetime achievement awar...

Re: Oxymore. January 21, 22, 23 2022

I was not able to attend and completely forgot about the broadcast. Did anyone record it? I'd love to give it a listen. It's not exactly piracy as I of course will buy any official release :-) Go here https://www.francemusique.fr/emissions/carrefour-de-la-creation/carte-blanche-jean-michel-jarre An...

Nothing in Norway yet.

Also: Is there supposed to be a deluxe release of this? I read somewhere you could buy a box with the bluray, vinyl, CD and a masterclass from Jarre.

Re: Does JMJ look back on Oxygene 7-13 with some regret?

Here is what Jarre told me about Oxygene 7-13 when I interviewed him in 2018: "– I prefer Oxygene 3 (2016). Oxygene 7-13 wasn’t analogue enough. And that was because we were in this very silly era. It was an era where we started to discover that digital just couldn’t match the warmth of analogu...

Re: Does JMJ look back on Oxygene 7-13 with some regret?

I agree with you on Oxygene 7-13 being the odd one out. The album is much more melodic than Oxygene 1-6 and Oxygene 14-20 are. I think it fits Equinoxe more than Oxygene in that regard. Oxygene 3 (the song) is referred to at the end of Oxygene 16, where it's played in a major key, instead of a mino...

Back cover photos on Oxygene and Equinoxe

The original back cover photos for Oxygene and Equinoxe were changed some years after their original release. The "new" photos were both taken in the same area in Paris (you can recognise the railing behind Jarre in the Oxygene photo to the left in the Equinoxe photo). Both were taken by C...

Re: Welcome To The Other Side

I'm a completist, so I will of course buy this, but it's a meh-release for me. Jarre in a VR environment miming to other people's remixes of his music and with fake audience noise. I don't quite see the point. I'd much rather have a official release of the Electronica tour. At least he has the right...

Oh wow. JMJ posted a photo with him once. Looks like a man of taste (although I have not seen the last Star Wars movie, due to the whole trilogy being an incoherent mess thanks to The Last Jedi) JJ Abrams and Jarre know each other, and have met several times. Not sure how that connection started. A...

Anyone tried it?

Well, to quote what I wrote on Facebook about this book: "I started reading the English version yesterday, but I'm sorry to say that the translation (and I'm using that word very loosely here) is on par with Google translate. It's really bad and it's not something you should put on the market a...

When I interviewed Jarre in November, he told me that the full version was 75 minutes, and that he had to cut it down to 47 minutes to fit in the Calypso tracks, and to 22 minutes to fit on the LP and MC. The version used at the exhibition was cut to 69 minutes.
