Can anyone confirm if the single mixes ever got released on any of these (as far as I know they didn't but I just want to be sure)?
That's correct. The Vinyl version of Musik aus Zeit und Raum contains single edits. The CD-releases contains album versions.

The Essential and Synthesis (the Italian release, with a different cover) contain album mixes.

Did you notice the difference between the Oxygene 4 album version and the single version?

The single version features 4 bars in the intro of before the lead melody begins while the album version has 5 :-)
I don't think I ever noticed that, not even when I've played the 7inch single I have of Oxygene 4 in the past but I haven't played them for a while since I'm more likely to listen to the main albums and not the compilation albums. Also I only have The Essential JMJ and the french version The Essential JMJ 76-86 which did have the Zoolookologie 7inch remix I believe.
I knew my hearing was bad but I didn't realise it was that bad I think I need to look into getting some hearing aids.

Only Zoolook, Zoolookologie and Rendez-Vous. Not Equinoxe 4. They are on two huge 80s 12" collection CDs (that's why Equinoxe 4 is not included - it's from the 70s)

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Maxi-Sin ... se/1840955

great collections too by the way.
I can confirm that Equinoxe 4's 12" version is released on CD too. It's on a compilation called Les Années 80 Versions MAXI 45 t. vol 2 CD 7.

Here's the tracklist.

I just bought it on ebay, so I'll let you know how it sounds soon.

I think it's part of a bigger compilation box, there's two volumes and multiple CDs, but they're sold seperately on ebay right now.

Les Années 80 Versions MAXI 45 t. Vol 1 CD 6 contains Zoolook 12"
Les Années 80 Versions MAXI 45 t. Vol 1 CD 8 contains Zoolookologie 12"
Les Années 80 Versions MAXI 45 t. Vol 1 CD 13 contains Rendez-Vous 4 12"

Oh cool, I had no idea that the Equinoxe Pt. 4 remix was released digitally as well. I already own the digital versions of the other three (though I do want the actual discs still), so would be very interested in hearing this one digitally. The Rarities rip sounds pretty great already, so can't really imagine it being much better.

Interesting, even on the CD version there are bits that sound like "recorded off a used vinyl record", namely the Mellotron(?) choir from 5:56 onwards.

Then again, I think the Equinoxe 4 music video used a shorter version of that particular mix (can't remember if it sounded as scratchy, though), so I guess the "worn-out" sound is just a part of it all around. ;)

Yeah, the fade-in and fade-out are clean and the mellotron part does have noise. Interesting that you mention the video version, that does indicate that it is part of the track...

The video (which would be nice to see remastered if they still have the film stock somewhere) also uses a slightly sped up version of the track, but it does sound very clean overall on both the rip here and the video. It's either deliberate that the remix sounds somewhat rough or something went seriously wrong somewhere during the production with one of the tapes.

Comparing it to the Rarities version, I have to admit however... I kind of prefer that one to be completely honest.

At some point on YouTube, there was an upload of the mix under the name "Equinoxe 4 (12'' Extended Version) - Best Quality" or something to that effect - can't seem to find it now. But as its subtitle said, well, I for one thought it sounded better than my vinyl rip for example ;)

But yeah, I think I still kind of prefer its sound to the CD's but only since it's a bit "warmer" and the Mellotroin choir's quality doesn't stand out that much IMO.

I bought the 3 other CDs of this Annees 80 series and compared them with the previous releases:

DR Peak RMS Duration Title [codec]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DR10 -0.00 dB -11.92 dB 6:25 A - Zoolook (extented mix) [flac]
DR11 -0.00 dB -13.15 dB 6:23 B - Zoolook (Extended Mix) [flac]

DR10 -0.14 dB -11.75 dB 6:25 A - Zoolookologie (Extended Remix) [flac]
DR11 -0.00 dB -13.09 dB 6:25 B - Zoolookologie (Extended Mix) [flac]

DR10 -0.00 dB -11.53 dB 6:09 A - Rendez vous IV (special remix) [flac]
DR10 -0.00 dB -12.21 dB 6:08 B - Rendez-Vous IV (Special Remix) [flac]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A = the old (Wagram) releases
B = this "new" release ("new" because we don't know when they are released)
As you can see, they have a better DR.

This is Zoolookologie (Extended Mix) old vs. new:

zy_new.png
And, to be on-topic with the topic title (maybe I should rename this topic :-) ), Rendez-Vous IV (Special Remix) old vs. new:

rv4_new.png

They sound much cleared, wider.

Yeah, the youtube version does sound warmer, it's probably the best version.

Oh yeah, the difference is very obvious (in Zoolookologie, at least) - the rip from 2011 definitely has more bass going on

That's really interesting that they seemingly have a different version for the two releases. In the case of Zoolookologie they're identical in length (6:26.866), but the waveform are clearly significantly different. So curious if the previous disc was originally just encoded badly for the master and they simply improved it before sending it out this time or actually received a different master (though considering the length that feels unlikely).

Edit: playing the two versions of the original Zoolook Extended Mix... That's honestly a huge difference! The new one sounds so much better!
