https://www.fan.pl/jean-michel-jarre-am ... ,p94189390On April 7, 2021, an exhibition entitled "Amazonia" will open in the Philharmonie de Paris with pictures by the Brazilian photographer, photo reporter and environmental activist Sebastião Salgado.
Salgado has been working as a freelance photographer since 1973 and has also worked for various agencies. In long-term projects of his own choosing, he uses black-and-white photographs to document the lives of mostly poor people, especially those from the Third World. A report about Brazilian gold miners was particularly well known. With his project "Genesis" he documented untouched landscapes. Salgado is committed to the deforestation of the rainforest and supports projects for reforestation and the protection of indigenous people in Brazil. In 2019 he received the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
Several extensive illustrated books and impressive traveling exhibitions have been created in the meantime. The exhibition "Amazonia", from 07.04. To be seen in the Philharmonie de Paris until 22.08.2021, shows pictures of Salgado from the Amazon region - "Poignant images that convey the extraordinary power of nature", as the Philharmonie de Paris writes.
The specialty of the exhibition for Jarre fans is of course the "soundtrack" contributed by Jean-Michel Jarre. The Philharmonie says:
"In addition to the fragility of this ecosystem, the exhibition highlights the richness of the sound universe of the Amazon by bringing together the impressive photographs of Salgado with an unprecedented creation by Jean-Michel Jarre, conceived from the concrete sounds of the forest. The rustling of the trees , the cry of the animals, the song of the birds or the rushing of the water cascading down from the peaks of the mountains, collected on the spot, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, form a soundscape adapted to the Salgado route. Jean -Michel Jarre, who was appointed Unesco ambassador in 1993, is involved in remarkable projects for tolerance and cultural pluralism as well as for the protection of nature and the environment. "
These soundscapes will probably be quite different from what you usually know from Jarre, but also quieter. It should be more of a kind of sound collage with musique concrète influences.
