Boston 19% of 5000
Philly 32% of 3000 (20 tickets sold in the past 10 days)
NYC 37% of 6000
Unless there's some selective photography going on, the concerts looks really well attended so far?
In Philadelphia attendance was about 50%. The theater closed the balcony (about 33 - 40% of the venue - I had a seat there) and the main floor was not full. The very back and a wide patch near the front were empty and they allowed the audience to move forward. Still it was a good time! Before the concert I walked in a side street around the trucks and busses and many flight cases. Also saw Claude outside. After the show saw Fiona and Chris. Friends of mine who are electronic musicians and radio hosts in Philly were there and they were blown away. Also a guy from Security at the theater said it was hands down the best show he saw at the venue.

On the afternoon of the New York show the ticket site showed about 75% sold.

One last note about Josh Wink's performance. He started at 8 pm sharp and played a set for about 45 minutes. In keeping with the aquatic theme of En Attendant Cousteau that was playing before the show Wink started his set with sea waves, the beginning was very mellow and a few minutes in beats came up, with a mix of nice loungey textures and metallic sounds at times. The beat was never really upfront, it was laid back, though dynamic. It felt a bit long toward the end (maybe because I was waiting for Jarre) but overall that was a nice overture.

All depends on how long he's been hired for... :pwned:

A few words about this tour.
There were a lot of shows concentrated on the East Coast. Some other close cities like Philadelphia, NY, Boston ...

IMO Jarre could have scheduled shows in Miami, where the biggest EDM shows and electronic music in the States are concentrated. Better planning next time.

Denver is in the American Midwest. Then there were several fans coming from Nebraska, Utah and Texas to see this show. But the better choice would have been HOUSTON !!! Forgetting the city where he made the biggest show of his career so far is unforgivable.

I think 2 reasons.

Relatively low (?) level of overall promotion and the short period between tickets coming-up and the concerts.
Tickets got available by the end of January for May. There could have been more time for ticket selling.

But this can be better next time! :)

2 good reasons. 3rd reason, and the main one: JMJ is NOT popular in North America.

In general electronic music is a niche in the US, even though there are many interesting American musicians... That kind of music doesn't sell. Pop music (almost entirely electronic, ironically), sure. But instrumental electronic music? Nope. Instrumental dance music in clubs doesn't count, and even if you want to count it it's a niche too... ;-)

A few years ago Tangerine Dream played in the Philadelphia area - the promoter had to switch to a smaller venue because of poor ticket sales.

Two record store owners I know and who've been in the business for over 30 years told me almost the same thing: "it's strange he's not selling more here, he's like a rock star in Europe!" One of them has been into "space music" since the 70s and he carries some of the classics of electronic music, but they don't sell much: TD, Schuize, even less Jarre and Kraftwerk... OK, Kraftwerk have never been a big seller anyway... Well, not entirely true. They played Philly in 2015 at the Electric Factory (an aptly-named venue for them :-) - 2,500 sold out...

As much as I wish there had been a larger audience for JMJ at the Philly show, one has to acknowledge the fact that Jarre's audience in the US is fans only... A fairly small number, really. In Europe he has many, many more fans AND casual listeners who are interested in attending one of his shows for the experience. Not the case here.

Cheers!

I saw the show in NYC. We had seats for the upper tier of Radio City, and when we got up there, an usher asked us if we wanted to trade in our tickets for seats in orchestra. So, of course, we did. He gave us our tickets out of a stack that he had with him.

I'm guessing that the place didn't sell well and they wanted to make the place look like it was well-sold, so they gave everyone in the top tier tickets for orchestra. I couldn't see anyone in the top seats when the show started.

The show itself was amazing. I could never get to Europe to see one of his shows, and it was obvious that even a large venue like Radio City was too small for the type of show he was putting on. He needs to play outdoors, but I appreciated him finally coming to the US.
