Fête de la musique: "We can't wait to share good vibes with you all", rejoices Jean-Michel Jarre

The musician will give a concert at the Elysee Palace which will be broadcast on Culturebox and on social networks.

Jean-Michel Jarre: This Music Festival is marked this year by the relaxation of health measures that were long awaited. We will be able to reinvest a lot of places of music and shows beyond the bars. A bit like for Heritage Days, to be able to play music in certain places in the Republic which, basically, belong to all of us.

You have been invited the President of the Republic. Are you honored?

I am indeed happy that the tenant of the Élysée invites us to make some noise in his courtyard and thus celebrate the electronic music which has suffered especially during this period. I was in charge of the programming of this concert which will be transgenerational and which will also testify to the diversity of styles of this music and also of the place of women in this music. 200 young holders of the Culture Pass will be able to attend the concerts while respecting the sanitary instructions. The musical program will be followed by young people who will in fact be seated upright with high seats. So, we get closer to the standing position. The concert will also be broadcast live on Culturebox from 8 p.m. and will also be relayed on social networks such as Tik Tok, YouTube, etc. It will therefore be accessible to all. Which was obviously important to us.

A Fête de la Musique without an improvised concert in the street, isn't that too frustrating?

Yes, but at the same time, we all know that we have to go gradually. What the minister announced is already progress over what we might have feared. This will still allow you to breathe, to make music. We are especially delighted to meet the public again and we can't wait to share good vibes with you all.

Oh, nice. And a broadcast, always good. So that's where the facebook chat tonight will be about! It looks like one concert with several artists? I guess we'll hear more tonight.

I love Joachim for doing these reports. The one last year where JMJ did an improv and Joachim showed unique footage of the making of the Metamorphoses album are fantastic and now he gives a behind the scenes look of a (small scale) concert which is going to be held tonight.

This stage set up is like an "Electronica Mini" which looks really interesting. Like a portable, touring set up that could be a pop-up event in a town square or village. Very poetic. The "City In Concert" approach - Houston, Lyon, La Défense - is obviously magical and ethereal and has a unique quality that only JMJ's career can point to. But when it was first scaled down for the Oxgene Tour (1997) and then later for Indoors etc there was a sense, I felt anyway, it wasn't actually small enough. It tried to retain a grand scale, when really it couldn't. The Coachella performance had this problem - big but not big enough; small, but not small enough. So it will be interesting to see how this plays out tonight.

Should say that I think the "City in Concert" concept scaled brilliantly for Europe In Concert, in 1993. But once JMJ went indoors, he actually needed to go to really small venues. I think anyway.

I just see that it's exactly one year after the Alone Together concert.
