I read something about a reunion concert in Holland.

Then again - we're lucky JMJ is doing at least something decent still, compared to Edgar F. It aint all that bad after all.

from 1970 to 1986 TD were the greatest music force in the universe, but Ed never knew when to quit and just keeps endlessly churning out about 4 or 5 CD's per year of bland-o-rama wallpaper music, just have no interest any more.

However I did see him live in May and he looked very frail and thin, often having to use the equipment on stage to help him get on and off, a shame really as he (along with Chris Franke, Johannes Schmoelling, Paul Haslinger, Peter Baumann) were (and still are retrospectively) real musical heroes of mine, seeing the founder fade like this is a little heartbreaking.
yes ! I agree ! :)
I saw them last in Berlin August 2009. It was raelly very sad to see Edgar so old and sick, but this TD concert was one of the best I ever joined . :)

Someone recently commented that my own music has a Tangerine Dream style to it and lent me some of his CD's of the band...

Surprisningly for me, I found the earlier work to be very slow, but also moody, reminding me of Pink Floyd's Pompeii concert, and I found the more modern sounds of Rockoon much more to my taste.

Maybe it's just the difference between what I enjoy hearing and what I like writing?!!!

The sad thing is that this musician is gone. This team has a wonderful and great music. by the big M. So many years of touring, collaboration, working on Music, everything is left behind. Life is only sometimes... Earth...
Change.

A great response in the Berlin press on the death of Edgar Froese. Here, in an interview with Christopher Deylen (Schiller)

What a coincidence, my 4 favorite Tangerine Dream albums have just been remastered and rereleased in nice mini-LP style in Japan.

(Probably would get those CDs except that these days Finnish customs act like quite the fascists if you order something from outside the EU)

Ordered those Japanese editions since I don't actually own Phaedra and the other editions I have are kinda shabby... according to reports, these are one of the best editions of those albums available, so that's fine by me (here's hoping they won't take eons to arrive here, tho'). :]

Also, I didn't know that the band was officially, well, disbanded by Edgar Froese's son (not mentioned on their official website, however). Long live TD indeed.

So I've been thinking about starting to listen to TD for a while now, and since I just came around to Kitaro I thought why not immediately continue. Especially with the collaboration album coming. But what's the best place to start? I've seen their discography and it's huge, and I have only heard a few loose tracks of them.

Should I start at the beginning or should I start at a later and probably more accessible part?
