Welcome to the new BlahBlahCafe!

We have migrated to a new server. As with every migration, some things might have been lost in translation (at least, that's my experience in software development). The main problem is logging in into the boards. These could be caused by several reasons:

- Your browser cache & cookies need to be cleared because we moved to a new server. If you get the error message whilst logging: "The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again.", you need to clear your cache & cookies. You can find a "Delete cookies" option at the bottom of this page.

- There is also a chance that your password is not correctly converted to the new system. This is a known bug with migrating the system. The only solution is to request a new password, there's a link on the form that will send an email to you to create a new password. If that fails, I can set a password for you, you can contact us at the "Contact us" link at the bottom of the page.

Do you like Daft Punk ?

Masters of sampling, they are. I saw a video with lot of comparisons of tracks from their first 3 albums and other works. Entertaining to watch

Is it plagiarism when you ask the permission of the original creator to use said samples and they say yes?

One of the best tricks they did was
Their target audience Teens 20 somethings don't want to see their dad's lookalikes on stage or in videos :lol2:
So they wore helmets.

So true. Ageism is a real thing in (pop)music. This is why certain (old) bands don't get played on the music stations. Pretty annoying of course. By pretending to be robots you can extend your popularity.

It's not just the helmets, they didn't wear them during (and before) their Homework period, it was how they approached their imagery. After they went with the robot aspect, they build an entire world and lore surrounding it. It was bloody brilliant and there's a reason I'm always a bit miffed whenever I see a picture of one of them without the mask. They build this mystery and world around those masks and it was a genius move and I loved every second of it.

Here's someone's deconstruction on Prodigy's Firestarter

Basically Daft Punk did the same.

Hip Hop musicians were sampling from late 70s throughout 80s then getting sued.

DaftPunk Prodigy terrified of getting sued mangled the hell out of the samples that made up their tracks.

Its quite tricky it's not as easy as it sounds: else everyone would done it.
Hindsight is easy : easy when you know how.

Daft Punk Prodigy were brilliant at it.

Ofcourse the GrandDaddy of sample mangling no one has got anywhere near in brilliance originality : Zoolook.

Also DaftPunk had the humbleness to say themselves
we wanna make music as our 70s Funk Disco heroes
but we don't have anywhere near the musical ability talent to make music as our heroes
so we just gonna sample them then later get 70s heroes to play on our records.

We just going to throw the entirety of their work under the bus by saying that they weren't talented because they sampled?

I think this is a misunderstanding of what I wrote.

I don't have even 1/100th Daft Punk talent.

To be able to play as 70sFunk Disco heroes requires serious musicianship ability talent : very few have this.

There's hundreds of bands worldwide imitating this to some level, only one that's famous is Jamiroquai.

Daft Punk showed the world you can be brilliant without having the talent ability to play to any serious level of musicianship as 70s Funk Disco heroes.

Nor is original compositions required.

What is required is a fresh take, inventiveness, keen musical ear :
these are all talents in their own right.

At the end of the day the Universe has to align for such worldwide success:
coincidences timing whatever we wanna name it.

Daft Punk uplifted Millions of people around the world with their music including me :
I have such fond memory summer 2013 because of Get Lucky.

Also Music Sounds Better with You by Thomas Bangalter, Alan Braxe, vocalist Benjamin Diamond
when I was a student.

Daft Punk also helped many people get through tough times with their music.
