Mitte der 70er war es, als Jean Michel Jarre mit 'Oxygene 1' seinen Weltraum eroberte.

Mit jedem neuen Album kam er der Sonne - seiner Sonne - näher und näher.

Anders aber als Ikarus hat sich der Franzose daran bis heute nicht verbrannt.

Obwohl sich aktuelle Harmonien nur wenig von den Ur-Motiven unterscheiden, gilt der Klangschöpfer seinen Fans in aller Welt mehr denn je als Gott.

Jarre thront auf seinem Elektronik-Olymp und ist doch auch ganz irdisch unterwegs, mit seinen inzwischen 70 Jahren.

Vor ein paar Wochen hatte er runden Geburtstag. Wieder einmal.

All diese Nuller-Geburtstage, 20, 30, 40 oder eben 70, das ist alles so abstrakt.

So war es auch diesmal. Wir hatten August und haben draußen gefeiert, aber ich habe schon bald die Runde verlassen und bin ins Studio, um am nächsten Album für Weihnachten zu arbeiten.

Der Mann ist rastlos, ein Arbeitstier.

Und doch kennt selbst er zunehmend Momente, die ihn innere Einkehr halten lassen.

Vor 10 Jahren z.B., da habe ich auf einen Schlag meine Eltern verloren.

Ein Ereignis, das mich ein fast religiöses Verhältnis zur Zeit hat finden lassen.

Vorher habe ich in die Zeit hineingelebt. Sie war mir nicht wichtig.

Nach dem Tod meiner Eltern hatte ich plötzlich das Gefühl, ich muss sorgsam mit ihr umgehen. Sonst verlässt mich die Zeit.

So was ist viel wichtiger als Geburtstage.

Und so tüftelt Jean-Michel Jarre zwar bis heute tagaus, tagein an neuen Alben, schraubt an seinen Keyboards und Synthies, bespielt Megakonzerte in aller Welt mit hunderttausenden Zuschauern, lebt für seine Musik und hat doch noch ganz andere Prioritäten:

Die drei Kinder z.B., die er mit seiner einstigen Ehefrau, dem britisch-französischen Filmstar Charlotte Rampling, großgezogen hat.

Die beiden sind bis heute ziemlich beste Freunde.

Wenn ich über meine Kinder rede, dann muss ich sagen:

Es ist nicht einfach für sie, einen so berühmten Vater und eine so berühmte Mutter zu haben.

Und ähnlich ist es mit der Musik. Sie haben ihren eigenen Geschmack, ihre eigene Persönlichkeit und daher auch die Musik, die ihnen gefällt.

Ich darf schon froh sein, wenn sie meine Musik nicht hassen.

Spätere Trennungen von anderen Berühmtheiten, den Film-Stars Isabelle Adjani und Anne Parillaud, verliefen geräuschvoller. Und doch eher im Verborgenen.

Rote Teppiche und Schlagzeilen überlässt Jarre ohnehin anderen.

Lieber ist er auf seinem Planeten unterwegs.

Kein Wunder, dass sein aktuelles Album 'Planet Jarre' heißt, eine gigantische Best-Off-Sammlung.

Eine Reise durch 50 Jahre Musik, an der Stelle schätzt Jean-Michel Jarre dann doch die Jubiläen."

For example, 10 years ago, I lost my parents in one fell swoop.

An event that has given me an almost religious relationship to the time.

Before, I lived in the time. She was not important to me.

After the death of my parents, I suddenly had the feeling that I had to treat her with care. Otherwise, time will leave me.

This is much more important than birthdays.

And so Jean-Michel Jarre is still working day in, day out on new albums, screwing on his keyboards and synths, playing mega concerts all over the world with hundreds of thousands of spectators, living for his music and still has other priorities:

For example, the three children he raised with his former wife, the British-French movie star Charlotte Rampling.

The two are pretty best friends to this day.

When I talk about my children, I have to say

It is not easy for her to have such a famous father and such a famous mother.

And it's similar to the music. They have their own taste, their own personality and therefore the music they like.

I can be happy if they do not hate my music.

Later separations from other celebrities, film stars Isabelle Adjani and Anne Parillaud, were noisier. And yet in secret.

Jarre leaves others with red carpets and headlines anyway.

He prefers to travel on his planet.

No wonder his current album is called "Planet Jarre", a gigantic best-off collection.
