Got the idea from another forum for a "synthesizer investment" topic.
So here goes:

Roland SH-7 :)
Roland RE-501 (Tape delay) :D
Yamaha CS-30 :D
Kenton Midikit for Roland VP-330 :D

Uhm. A friend of mine lended his ARP Pro-Soloist to me. Although it's barely working, it's quite fun to play. Apart from that, I didn't really purchase something, I think. Or it would be the Electric Mistress which I bought about half a year ago... :P

A tape delay is a synth? :-p
Well, running a bit off from the pure "synth", my two simultaneous latest buys were Audition 2.0 upgrade and a couple sample libraries.

Checking Magix Sequoia (amazing) but I think I'll stick to Steinberg's Nuendo 3 (payed for and I can live with it's bugs), which means buying Wavelab 6 as soon as I alocate money for it (Wavelab 5 doing fine for now, but this new version is just screaming for me). 8-)

Kind Regards,

Did your pal agree to sell his Fairlight CMI III to you or did that deal go down the drain ? I know a shop here in sweden that is selling a CMI III.
But it might be a bit pricey they are asking 49 900 SEK (arround 5000 Euro) for it. And they are selling it "as is" which I interpet as "broken" or "not in very good condition".

Not really, ok maybe I should have written "Latest studio eqiupment purcahse" Though feeding the output of the tape delay to it´s own input might result in self oscillation and thus it becomes a "oscillator" of some kind. Controll the pitch with the output or input volume ..

01r/w is the rack version of 01/w
03r/w is a slimmed down 01r/w with some additional features such as GM compatibility, but it's not sysex compatibile with 01r/w
05r/w is the rack version of X5, not compatible with 01/w either...

So, to answer your question: if you're looking for 01/w rack, go for 01r/w, if you want 01r/w minus a lot but additional GM compatibility, get 03r/w, and if you want a racked X5, you should be buying a 05r/w.

Hope that helps :)

/edit: I forgot, there's also 01F/W, F for FLOPSKI. :D

Correct

03r/w is a slimmed down 01r/w with some additional features such as GM compatibility, but it's not sysex compatibile with 01r/w

01W is GM compatible with later OS..01W earleir models need the OS upgrade or Floppy disk Upgrade for FD versions

05r/w is the rack version of X5, not compatible with 01/w either...
05 is a slim version of the 01,Rack version of the X5 is the X5DR/,sound wise they are compatible with the same PCM samples, but sysexclusive is Exclusive to a particular model any synth that is not of the same Message type is not compatible with another synth...

/edit: I forgot, there's also 01F/W, F for FLOPSKI. :D
That'll be the 01WFD..... 01W Is the model with no Floppy drive

01w/03/X5 are all soundwise compatible, but not direct sound loading, you can create all the same sounds on each of these synths, and also the N5/N5EX/N1,they all have cross platform PCM data.....

Across the board the majority of Korg Synths are sound compatible, you can even use M1 format sound cards within the Wavestation, which are also readable on the 01W,they just emply different synthesis methods to shape the sounds.....

I find it really weird that Korg made all these machines compatible in some form, but yet 2 of the closest machines they produced (Triton/Trinity) are not file compatible other than by actually editing/Copying the sounds settings yourself!!!!

If your after an 01,then you could buy the N5/X5/X5D/X3/N264/05R/N1/03/01w/NX5R and have the same type of sounds..ITs all Ai2 Synthesis ,with the same FX algorithms

I'm not purchasing anything at the moment...

Late 2005 I bought a JD-800 and a JUNO 106.

I'm trying to sell the JD-800 on eBay right now. And soon the Alesis ION will go as well (just gave it for repair today... finally!).

Important investments to come: studio monitors (already bought), soundcard, computer upgrade (HD, RAM, DVD burner). Then I'll be able to work seriously on my music, and maybe I'll buy some stuff after that. Roland D50 or an analog synth like JX8P or JX10.
