Sometimes I think Mike is unfair or maybe plain stubborn.
He should've taken a better look at his own music.
It is noticeable those that get irritated easily are themselves irritating.shadow wrote:
In all fairness, I know many that hate a lot of Jarre's work wit h a passion. All the swoops and diddles and plings just irritates the hell out of them. I can understand where they're coming from, there are a few tracks that really have a few effects too many.
For some reason Mike has become a somewhat bitter person maybe I'm mistaken I hope so.Goudeskitchen wrote:
I think I remember reading in one of the Mike Oldfield biographies ('A Man And His Music' from memory) that Mike didn't like Jarre's work. I think the quote went along the lines of 'I'm surprised 'Tubular Bells' didn't inspire more people to write music like it. Sure, you had Jean-Michel Jarre's Oxygene and [I can't remember the other album] but I thought they were both crap!'![]()
I'm not sure if he has warmed to the maestro over time though seeing as a lot of his later stuff is very Jarre-related!
Yes. Just this.dlaivison wrote:Vangelis .... recently he has said:

So I believe that there would not be some restriction to collaborate with Jarre now.
But is up to Vangelis.

Must been decades ago.
Because they would go against the present time "music mystic" sayings of Vangelis.
Vangelis these days being more " mystically advanced " would express more openness,
Particularly the subtle mystic elements in Oxygene Equinoxe Vangelis missed decades before.
He did lose his son last Mayplate of chips wrote:For some reason Mike has become a somewhat bitter person maybe I'm mistaken I hope so.Goudeskitchen wrote:

Mike has alienated himself from several people and is shunned by several.
It's a bit sad.
We don't know what trauma Mike had as a kid ....
From readig his biography Mikee was definitely withdrawn suffering inside himself as a kid.
This can become resentment, me against the world, bitterness when older.
Mike is a legend I so hope he is healing inside himself.

Add to that one really bad trip and you have a receipt for disaster. Honestly I felt terrible watching. As someone who has his own fair share of problems it really feels very similar and kinda rough to sit through.

Yes. And if you think about that both geniuses worked with common people this should be the main approach.
3 years ago I've spoken with Dennis (from elsewhere) and he told me that the difficult thing about both composers to meet would be because of the way of work.
Vangelis records everything in basically 1 take. For him, this is the pure interpretation and art.
Jarre is perfectionist ... probably he would record and re-record until reach the perfection.
But I still believe in both working together ... let's see

But it's highly possible that Jarre is aware of what Mike and Vangelis have said about his music in the past and thus didn't want to bother.
