Jean-Michel Jarre’s Tribute to UNESCO Lights Up Samarkand
French electronic music legend, Jean-Michel Jarre, delivered a breathtaking tribute concert for UNESCO at Registan Square in Samarkand, Uzbekistan as part of the organizations 43rd General Conference.
Jarre has been a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for over thirty years. His concert transformed the historic square into a glowing fusion of sound, light and architecture, celebrating humanity’s shared cultural legacy.
“I adore this organization; I adore the teams of UNESCO are working hard to shape our future. I would like to dedicate this concert to Audrey Azoulay the Director General for the past 8 years who opened doors of UNESCO to the 21st Century, and promoting in a modern way peace, culture and equal rights and science and education all over the planet.” - Jean-Michel Jarre
The concert blended Jarre’s signature electronic compositions with laser displays, 3D projections, and lighting that lit up the spectacular arches and patterns in the architecture. Thousands of spectators gathered in the square, and thousands more watched the livestream worldwide.
Jarre has used his music to promote culture, peace, and environmental awareness. His performances often highlight UNESCO’s missions of intercultural dialogue and sharing humanity.
