Electronic maestro Jean-Michel dedicates Zero Gravity to late Tangerine Dream mainman
The late Edgar Froese is featured on an EP to be launched by Jean-Michel Jarre next month.
Zero Gravity was recorded in collaboration with Tangerine Dream before Froese died in January aged 70. It's one of three titles to be released in a limited-edition vinyl run of 1000 copies each.
The track is described as “a journey across a host of ambient, electronic and synth-heavy sounds.” It's accompanied by Watching You, featuring Massive Attack’s Robert ‘3D’ Del Naja, and Conquistador with techno artist Mike Levy, aka Gesaffelstein.
Jarre has issued teasers of Zero Gravity and the other two pieces, all of which will appear on his next album. The EPs arrive on June 19 via The Vinyl Factory, pressed on 180g vinyl, and they're now available to pre-order.
So, "Zero Gravity" is pretty much "Night in Shanghai 2.0"?

Ok, the Tangerine dream track is the most boring track ever, even the remix sounds so old. It is back to 1993(the remix) the Original (OMG, what a bullshit) I don't like Tangerine dream. They are so old in music. Always the same and the same. It is like synthesiser greatest music. Music for the older men. Nobody cares about tangerine dream. I hope that Jarre will collaborate with Kraftwerk. These guys are the inventors and the masters of electronic music of today and the future.

Each to their own, and Tangerine Dream's audience reaches far far far more people than just "old men".
In any case, I'm really glad that the whole "collaboration album" didn't turn out to be just mere rumors or unrealized ideas and that he's actually working with greats such as Tangerine Dream (or rather, did work, RIP Edgar Froese) and other popular electronic artists (like Massive Attack). Then again, where's Daft Punk?
And on that note, a project like this would have been totally unheard of 10 years ago, when JMJ was still more of a "pariah" of the (electronic) music community. Good to see that he's earned more respect from his fellow musicians (and other people) in the mean time.
Even then, a full unedited concert video of the Paris La Defense concert is still the Holy Grail of JMJ releases that they should just get around to making and releasing on DVD or BluRay (even if the video quality wouldn't be up to the BR standards).

I agree completely with you if you are thinking of Tangerine Dream form 1983 and onwards. It's staggering how completely crappy TD became when they discovered digital synths.
But if you mean their 70s output, I must disagree heavily. It's was mind blowing, innovative and very, very influential.

Well... yes and no. It's certainly much cooler to say you like Jarre now than it was back then. But in the 90s the electronica artists of the day were all singing his praises and acknowledging Jarre's influence on them. And a lot of them lined up to remix him.
However, the synth artists of the early 80s did NOT admit Jarre was an influence. For them it was Kraftwerk all the way, and for some it was Tangerine Dream (but that was more for the late 70s early 90s electronica artists)
But Jarre did collaborate with a lot of influential artists who respected him very much in the 80s. Laurie Anderson, Adrian Belew and Marcus Miller.
But I don't hink Gary Numan would have done a collaboration with Jarre in the 80s

Im sorry but who pissed on your breakfast? Why do you get so negatively emotional about TD?
Do respect that others on this forum are listeners of TD aswell as Kraftwerk. If you have a need to be negative about the way you do in this situation. Maybe you could find other forum societies that talks in your directions.
