I agree with all that you say. If you had some of that in high quality, I would go for it, but yes YouTube or wmv files may not be particularly suitable.

I guess I was really *dream* thinking about what an official DVD release could be like. I think it's a source of constant frustration for many of JMJ's fans that the old concerts are not being released on DVD or Blu-Ray.

I'm still hoping that Mike Mansfield still has the missing footage from La Defense and Docklands, and that some full-length concertl edition DVD's can be released, with the new tracks edited in and the annoying mistakes edited out. I'm sure Moscow would be easier to source the material missing from the official video release. It may be a bit much to hope the same with Bob Giraldi and the Houston concert, or dare I say the Concerts In China!

I had hoped, with the release of the China Aero concert, Gdansk, Aero, Teo & Tea and Oxygene In Your Living Room there would be more similar DVD/CD sets of his older concerts released too.

I am totally with you, it is a shame the classics has not been released on DVD. I would also very much like to see the kind of DVD set with lots of specials / extras that you describe. The full Houston concert would be desirable!

Hi everyone, big Jarre enthusiast here!

Needless to say I was very dissappointed after the Houston DVD was cancelled. So some months ago I went on Amazon and bought a mint condition PAL/european version of the old VHS (PAL having he highest resolution / clearest picture, and without the silly interviews).

Thanks for the work you spent on the DVD... but may I point out a fine detail without hopefully not spoiling the fun? Technically, you are right, that PAL is superiour in terms of resolution and picture clarity. But as the Houston Concert was entirely done in NTSC with NTSC resolution and 60 half-frames per second, the optimum tape is in fact the NTSC version(!). A transfer from NTSC to PAL always means a quality loss - especially in the past, where high quality digital conversion wasn't possible, which in fact does a great job these days.

As there are only 480 lines in the NTSC version, the 480 lines have to transferred to 576, which back then in the old days always lead to some sort of loss of sharpness as there is no 1:1 line transfer. Further, 60 half-frames have to be converted to 50 half-frames, which also cannot be done 1:1, resoluting in movements not being smooth and/or looking less sharp.

These days, digital conversion can interpolate lines and frames, so that above effects may become almost unnoticable. But back then, such a technology wasn't available.

For the same reason, I would be careful to expect Blu-Ray versions of the all the old stuff that was done on video like the Houston Concert, Paris - La Defense, Docklands etc. They were all done with TV resolutions, and even if they released a BluRay of it, all we can expect is an artificially upscaled video from 480/576 to 1080 lines and no real HD. But, yes, it would be great if all these concerts came out on DVD eventually.
