I hated it too 'cause it was strange for me. Strange compatibility with the other hosts (Rewire??? - what the...?), crappy orchestral sounds (sorry guys). But now I must say that when I'm playing anything for fun I run this more often than Nuendo 3! I listened to many demo songs published on Propellerhead's site and even it's not my style of music I'm going to make, I was shocked, especially about the easy way of writing and editing.
So... in dependence of style of music I can recommend Reason for making trance and hip/trip-hop, but also synth-pop/electronic music.
If youre going to make some ambient, orchestral, rock or jazz tracks, think 'about commercial VST sound modules (there are lots of them) and use them with Cubase (or Logic - depends on what OS are you using).
