The guy will be 63 this year. He doesn't need to be challenged anymore.

For you and I, it's a matter of opinion and perspective; not fact.

This is in my opinion not a concert for us fans only, but for a wide public, then I expect him to play his greatest hits, like oxy 2 and 4, magn, fields 2 and equinoxe 5 to name a few examples, seems a bit odd to leave them out for a concert like that will be in Monaco.
Most people only know a few hits, the people who know more, are 'interested' at least, and don't mind some lesser known stuff. Add to that, tunes like MF4, Chrono4 or Oxy8 are easy to listen to, they may not be recognized and picked up from the first notes, but one verse and chorus into the song, everybody knows what its about. As for Arpeggiator and Calypso 2, these have been fan favourites for a long time.

As for the current tracklist, the things that are getting annoying now are this Adagio thing (it goes nowhere, really), Oxy 5 + Variation 3 (neat, but I've heard it by now) and Industrial Revolution 2 (which doesn't really work on its own without pts 1 and 3). JMJ composed so much music that I tend to forget some of it from time to time.. and rediscover.

If he skips O5/V3, I will end with him :!:

As for IR2, he really could leave it off.

Regarding rest of the tour, I wonder if a Monaco-like stage would really be used. I hope so.

The main point is : Jarre showed the actual show to the Prince Albert, but maybe he and Charlene have other Jarre tunes they would like to be performed.

Prince Albert is not a total newbie in his music, since Jarre performed twice in Monaco...

Sounds to me the stage is a one-off for this concert. Lot of building up and cutting down to keep fitting it into other venues for a tour. Unlike that of a stage thats catered for such events.

Well, thats answers the question now doesn't it!

The stage is obvisouly a one-off and not for the tour considering how long it's taking to errect.

Thanks for the pictures :D Looking forward to the rehearsals! :P I know we shouldn´t expect anything new musically, so let´s just hope for a great, hopefully spectacular, concert/evening that will gain him some new attention :D

And THEN let us have a new studio album! :P

If he's charging to entry then the show should target fans more, so the usual track list that he's had since forever it a bit of a disappointment, but for a big free event like this then it has to cater for as many as possible so the popular, well known stuff works best so you can forgive.

Exactly. He's not doing this for the fans, he's doing this for the masses.

Vumiko wrote:Consider that his last MAJOR musical effort was Metamorphoses; that was over 10 years ago. Since then we've had little side projects (Sessions 2000, GOL), compilations (AERO, Essentials) and one very weak album (T&T) that he admits was a mistake. Overall, since 2000, his creative output has been rather unimpressive and he simply doesn't seem interested or inspired in terms of new musical ideas and direction. Think about it for a moment: only ONE major musical effort in the past 10 years. (I love Metamorphoses BTW). That's a serious decrease in output. In America, we call that "going down hill".
It's pretty forgetful to say Jarre is going down the hill. He has been doing some pretty good and pretty crazy projects the last 10 years. Concerts in the middle of nowhere (Aero and Marocco), one of his best shows ever (Gdansk), sideprojects nobody excpected (S2K and GOL, jazzy stuff showing a different side), and two different tours. T&T wasnt everyone's cup of tea but it was still different and experimental, and it did challenge JMJ.

Now, the 2008 Oxygene tour was not planned to exist from the beginning. It was the success of the 10 concerts in Paris in December 2007 that created a demand for a tour. Then they realized the market was right for an even bigger tour, which went on to be probably the biggest tour of the last few years of any French artist. The tour seems to be neverending as he's just responding to public demand. For a freelance artist, you have to take opportunities when they arise, and you cant just say "wait, I will do this tour in two years from now, so please hold up your interest and save your money until then". As popular as Jarre is, he still depends on support from investors, companies and promotors that believe in him right now.

All in all, the last decade has seen few normal albums but he has worked a lot with only 2003 not seeing a new album or concert. His projects has been varied and many of them great. I would not call this decade a failure, just because he has not released sequels to Equinoxe and done La Defense again. The typical project pattern of the 80s and 90s does not fit anymore, and it's not the fault of Jarre. So, while you are entitled to your opinion of course, when judging an artist you have to put your personal demands away and look at what actually has happened. Otherwise what you are actually judging is how the artist matches your own demands, and that is something else.

Nope Glenn, I can judge an Artist however I see fit; just as you can. My personal conclusions may differ than yours; but I can't say your way of judging is "right" any more than you can mine. We simply disagree and have a different perspective on the matter.

Peace from the USA..
