I know.... and that's what worries me! The music wasn't good back in June but that VR experiment was a sort of non-specific virtual world. To take the same beats-heavy EDM track list and drop it straight into the actual Notre Dame would be really careless. I really hope it's a bespoke track list, with variations appropriate to the setting.

The "venue" is Notre Dame and it deserves a wonderful mix of delicate 1970s electronic music. This has been done before: think of Tangerine Dream in Notre Dame de Reims in 1974, and in the UK Coventry cathedral and York Minster.
Good article here on Tangerine Dream and playing electronic music in cathedrals: https://musicaficionado.blog/2017/09/05 ... 0of%201974.

Agreed, and the press-release seems to indicate that too (tracks from Electronica 1 & 2 as well as Oxygene and Equinoxe tracks).

Except there was just O19 last time and no Equinoxe at all. I guess we could get Electronica Tour versions of O4 and E4 (which I'm not a fan of). I'm kind of curious what Ridwello can contribute, but judging from what I've heard so far it'll be hard to match Stephane.

Oh no! Oh, there's still a few up, phew. Luckily I downloaded the ones that were gone before they went away.

I only ripped the audio of the one with "Coachella Opening" (which seems to have been oddly sliced) to get a "studio version" of those opening organ chords

Question for those more technically-minded and musically-minded than I am:

How much of this show will be live? I don't want to open up the whole "does JMJ play live or not" debate, but this idea he's in a studio nearby and his physical actions are mimicked in real time by his avatar is really interesting. So there is a live visual element. And at the June VR concert, the metronome time click could be heard (and not deliberately, I imagine) which suggests there are elements of the music being delivered live, if not played live. What do others think?

I mean, the scope for "cheating" (!) when on a VR platform is huge I imagine, both visually and musically, but without there being genuine live elements, the shared experience doesn't exist.

I think there's a lot of backing tapes and some effects being played live, just like earlier this year. You know, the annoying "Ah" samples and bleeps.

Yup, agree with Dr_Jones 100%. Only the effects are live. I can't stand that "Ah" with syncopated delay.

TBH I wonder why this needs to be live at all. They could've recorded his entire "performance" and just replay it. He doesn't need to interact with the audience so nobody will be able to tell anyway and at least there wouldn't be f***-ups like that Ableton metronome last time.

Also, there should be a "screen" behind his avatar showing his actual face + torso to humanize it a bit. Because ATM it's grotesque - the environment is fake, his avatar is fake, there's no audience, there's no audience noise and reactions, it's just odd. Doesn't feel like a concert at all.

Yeah, I hope they add the Zoom screens for people who are watching via Zoom to make it less "artificial". You said the general rehearsals of Alone Together had those and it sounds like a great idea to me.
