Great film, even in 2D.

The last film I saw in the cinema was that new one by Charles Chaplin

That'll be "A Countess From Hong Kong" in 1967?

I saw Avatar in 3D last night with some friends. While the same couldn't be said for the storyline, the visuals set a new benchmark for movie special effects, I thought. Very immersive experience.

I didn't find anything wrong about the storyline. Not every film needs to have a deep French film storyline.

It's a shallow world if people only think a film is great because of its fantastic 3D effects. I used to love all things 3D, but alas fate didn't want me to be able to enjoy it anymore, so now I hate all this fuss about 3D, in cinemas and home TV's, and what not.

The visuals were impressive, yes, but without characters you felt involved with it would not have held my interest for nearly 3 hours (which it did). Otherwise, the 3D aspect is just a gimmick.

BTW, I didn't say it had a "bad" storyline Android, I just said it wasn't terribly original. In fact, I found it *very* similar to Dances With Wolves with a more exotic setting. Every storyline is derivative to an extent. It wasn't a new story, just an inventive and engaging way of telling an old one.

EDIT: And I can't comment on French cinema plotlines, as I don't habitually watch French cinema. Not enough stuff blowing up for me. [J/K]

Watched Sherlock Holmes last Friday. Great film, eventhough I don't recognize the original Sherlock character. I dodn't mind really, as I don't find the original story that exciting.

I agree with you.

In my opinion, the storyline is pretty similar to DUNE (the film , hu) ; a guy from one race, discovering another race, learning about there way of live, becoming one of them, founding his way in a kind of prophet role, and free the people from the bad guys.

Basically, this is what avatar makes me feel. but it stay a great film for me

Not seen this as of yet, but critics do say that the Holmes in this version is closer to the Holmes as written by Doyle.

Hmm...DUNE? In that case, I think that James Cameron AND Kevin Costner owe the Frank Herbert estate some royalties!

Yeah is it that hard to keep the original people and not have a lame french-horn-version of the original theme?

I felt the same with Miami Vice- something with the same idea and setting, yet totally different atmosphere and music, sgot nothing to do with the original.

The trailer was the best 2 minutes of the film, I'll wager.
