Lol, that's too true!

I noticed that about the videos too - all the cell phones. I admit that when I'm at a gig I like to snap a few pix, but try really hard to keep it to a minimum. I wonder what it looks like from Jarre's angle!

If i want to enjoy music i put the needle on my record.
If i want to enjoy a concert i expect to see something live not a replay from my record at home.

Exactly. And on a more personal note, it's a matter of artistic integrity. It's remarkable that someone of his ability and stature takes the stage only to pretend to play his primary instrument.

What if his primary instrument was his voice? Would you be happy to see him mime vocals for a 60 minute set? Many pop singers do in fact use playback, and that's just as unacceptable as JMJ pretending to play a synth, but this is JMJ we're talking about; the legend, the "Godfather of Electronic Music", the "Conductor of the Masses" - not Britney Spears. So yes, from an artistic perspective, it's disappointing to ME that someone with his artistic authority actively has chosen to misrepresent himself on stage for the vast majority of his career.

And to those of you who always want to silence fans like myself who are critical of him because we love him; show some compassion for those who think differently than you, and remember that you're on a discussion forum, after all.

To me it is clear you care you love JmJ, that's why it affects you, perhaps even hurts you.

I understand .

However we need to look at the Significance of JmJs concerts :

Helping bring China culturally towards opening doors;
Helping heal NASA Houston;
Concert for Pope JP2 adored by people of all faiths;
Triggering regeneration of Docklands (thousands jobs .... now a massive complex with cable car);
Concert for Tolerance;
Moscow speaks for itself;
Egypt Arab spring;
Water for Life.

These Bigger picture for JmJ's concerts is way Above and Beyond selfish concern for "personal artistic representation".
JmJ gets this.

In the videos everybody is filming instead of clapping and enjoying the show...

No, you obviously don't understand my friend.. It does NOT affect us, and it does NOT hurt us :) We are actually grown-ups :)

The point is, if Jarre releases/does something new, then great! If it's any good, the great! If not, then fine :) Some of us are just not fan fans like some other. When we were younger Jarre was THE MAN!, but then life came along and showed us all sorts of other beautiful things. So when we say that we simply thinks it looks "stupid" seeing Jarre showcasing himself like that (playing/miming wise), then it's not because we are hurt or it affects us, it's quite simply because we think so :)

Perhaps we can go beyond grown ups.

Some point in life we may reach an appreciation of inner dimensions in oursef, life, universes, creation.
When we do, such concerns as raised disappear :)

Oxygene 8: all one has to do is watch his performance on YouTube. At the beginning of the 2nd verse the lead is playing but poor JMJ is at the wrong keyboard, but once his realizes this, it's too late....the curtain had been lifted.
Yeah you're right. Ouch.

The promise a 3D effect was effective here. You can see on the vids how the images pop up from the screen wall… It all works very nice.

Vumiko makes alot of valid points, and to some level in my opinion i agree with them that it's disappointing. Jmj has the ability to play live and it would be great to see him do so. I'm just trying to appreciate it for what it is, and reevaluate if me traveling somewhere seems as worth it anymore :lol:

It is I'm sure... I'm just being a shit head about it

JMJ mime talk never changes (oldest discussion I've found about the subject was from some Usenet thread from 1988), so I've come up with 3 other random points:

- It's a shame that Ethnicolor will likely be never played live again, since it definitely doesn't fit any tour tracklisting.

- I think it'd be interesting if JMJ didn't go for obvious thumpers like Oxygene 8 and revise them (even though this one is very nice), but if he did something like make a new thumper of something like Equinoxe 3 and see how many non-fans would notice. Eh.

- I still think that an Ocean's Eleven-like incursion into the French TV archives to dig up all raw unedited materials on Paris La Defense and make a new edit would be pretty great. 8)

There's no La Defense raw unedited material in the TV archives.
