JMJ could eaisly use it for something else. Otherwise I don't mind intros with theremin and aero flute. It doesn't mean that he will play the AERO tracks. Noone knows.
Besides that, this was info from Oslospektrum and not JMJ, so you don't know if this is what it's going to be like, or if it's what it has been so far..

Agreed. But I have to admit I have grown tired of the flute stuff - unless he hooks it up to something analog... which is not possible ahem

If the flute makes an appearance - well ... I'll hold off until I hear concert reports - If it's an indoor version of the last few concerts - forget it ...

I might bring some rotten eggs just in case...

a kazoo is about as analogue as it gets around here... heck, just for bringing that up, i'll take the stylophone along too..

the last time I went to any gig without one or the other, there was a power cut for 2 hours - and London in the dark is pretty scary by candlelight... and as I now get paranoid in these circumstances, you can understand why they go to gigs with me

Flute!, it also says "harmony" & "strings", which to me suggests backing choir and orchestra of whicH JMJ doesn't do himself. So the flute could be part of the orchestra line-up.

It was mentioned by Claude earlier, that the strings of yesteryear will now be played on actual synths.

I think we just need to wait and see what happens. I wouldn't mind if the concert was played via flute the whole way through.

On a serious note, if the flute is intended to be part of the concerts then surely a few minutes will do no harm. After all it's not called "In-Doors Flute" World Arena Tour.

Just as a follow up, we're currently exploring the 'special offers' in Manchester at places near to the MEN arena - if you show your ticket, you can get discounts in some pubs/bars/eateries... don't forget also, there's the big wheel in Exchange Sq (no, they havent taken it down yet and as I'm aware, aren't going to do so until they've worked out where they'll be placing a newer, bigger more permenent one) with amazing views over Manchester... Urbis is just utterly fantastic and has the only elevator in Europe that goes upwards sideways...
(free to enter, other stuff you have to pay for - but.. your choice!) again, with some amazing views because the entire building is skinned with nothing but glass....
At the back of Urbis is a really relaxing water feature... its surprising how much road/traffic noise a water feature can actually block out.

In Piccadilly Gardens there are some good places for food/drink and a massive water feature - so don't be too surprised if the weather is nice and there are parents with small children there playing in the fountains - if thats your thing - join in! I'm sure you'll be able to buy a towel to dry off nearby

I'm going to the Oslo concert on May 13th. It will be my first Jarre concert (and quite possibly my last?), and it will be something to remember.

There are songs and moments in Jarre's career I don't like as much as others. I don't like Metamorphoses and Teo & Tea as much as most other albums. I think Zoolook is one my least favorite albums (Ethnicolor is both epic and embarassing at the same time, the rest of the album is not epic). I don't much like the electric guitars used on Europe In Concert. I get a little embarassed when Jarre tries to play the Theremin....

But the great songs and moments in his career are epic! If he plays Oxygene 2 or 4, Equinoxe 4, Equinoxe 7, Chronologie 3 or 4, Rendez-Vous 2, 3 or 4, Calypso 2, Oxygene 7, 8 or 12, Souvenir of China, or any of his other great songs from his 32-year career, I know I'll be happy. If there is a laser harp I'll be over the moon!!!

I know I can handle a bit of theremin madness or a couple of tracks from Teo & Tea, or flute playing (which I actually don't think is bad at all - it was Jarre's use of the Yamaha WX5 wind controller in the Solidarnosc DVD that made me want to buy a wind controller myself even though I ended up with the AKAI EWI4000s).

There may be moments during the concert when Jarre and his crew play songs that aren't my favorites or play versions of songs that I don't like as much as the original or other concert versions. So what?? It's still a Jarre concert. I'm not the kind of fan that would cut off my right arm (even though I'm left handed hehe) just to see the God himself, but I have a ton of respect for Jarre and his musical accomplishments, and it will be nice to have seen the man himself live.

And even if there should be (in my personal opinion) moments during the concert when he plays songs that aren't my top 10 favorites, there will still be Oxygene 4 and other great songs. There will be video projections and lasers, and hopefully even a laser harp. There will be a lot of sound, deep bass, visual effects, analogue and/or digital synthesizers, and I'll be there together with 9,000 other people in Oslo Spektrum. It will be a real Jarre concert! And a very special evening.


I'm a little surprised to see some forum members implying things like "a flute??? shit, that means AERO tracklist, and in that case the whole concert will be crap", based on (reliable??) info from Atomic Agency, the promoter of the Oslo concert. Or "look at that crappy flyer that has a picture from an earlier concert - the whole concert will probably be bad then". Well, if you are so concerned about being disappointed, then stay at home. Maybe you've been at too many Jarre concerts or watched too many of his concert videos and grown tired of his music.

Me? I'm just happy to be able to attend a real Jarre concert. I can't imagine walking out of Oslo Spektrum wishing I'd spent my 550 Norwegian Kroner on alcohol instead.

rfoshaug: got it one.. and we should be thankful that he's done 2 tours in 2 years too... just being in any arena and seeing him on stage is enough for a majority of the fans - myself included... it wouldn't matter what he played.... for the majority, it'll be a fantastic evening being entertained by 'the master' and anyone who didn't like it would probably be in the minority... even if they stay for the duration...
