Good that you mention this compression thing (nice article on the wikipedia). But it's not always the artist who is responsible for the compression or the fact that new releases (or re-releases) will be messed up with this over-compression. Mainly responsible are (imho) the studios and especially the big record companies.

Maybe it's zeitgeisty that today the music will be produced merely for smartphones and mp3-players instead of people like you and me (and many others, of course) who like a decent mixing/recording... there are many albums I rather like to listen from good old vinyl instead of the CD.

To an extend yes, in many cases this is the fact. But if I'm going by the video of Jarre with the other guy that was released just before Singles and Rarities, Jarre had always had his say in what does and doesn't go through. The entire video he was basically him praising the guy for what kind of god he is at (re)mastering and that the job he did on the S&R release and his previous couple of albums was absolutely outstanding.

The Dryfus/Sony age I'm still confused about what exactly happend there so I'll skip those releases. But anything AERO related is completely on him and him alone, it's his own company he should oversee that kind of stuff when releasing his music...

I think Jarre is due for retirement. If he ever will release a new album, I think it will also be his last. Hopefully there is ever a new album. But I would not continue to hope. The man goes quietly to his 70th year. And if there is ever a new album will ever appear, you can be sure that it is his last.

I hope not, but if he does he should imo release atleast one new album consisting of either brand new composed music or music never released for whatever reason. We know there was an album made between Sessions2K and Geometry of Love that was never released, or maybe a new compilation with actual rarities. I still want my studio version of The Sun...

Ok, its 2014 now. Time for an update? The album(s) must be long finished by now as Sony would not have signed a contract with Jarre without hearing new material. Ok, the back catalogue was acquired with the Dreyfus acquisition, but an annoiuncement must be imminent.

I believe he will produce a new Album, but now I also believe, this will be his last.
The indicia: He now has so many other interests, and he told about the planed concert at Perth. "This will be my legacy." I hope not his death as a man, but maybe as a musician.
This will be sad, but it´s his live. He should do what he like.

What we can tell so far:

Josmar is odd for a week in Los Angeles in the study Joaquín Garrafón have in that town working on the new album does. Although we do not know for sure, it is almost certain they are doing the finishing touches and mixing the album. The disk you are working is to collaborations. The intention is that the disc is double (the collaborations and staff Josmar), but it is not known whether it will be so. When he is tucking the cane Josmar (night and day, literally) is the Collaborative.
Today Josmar is still in Los Angeles and, apparently, are the Jug and he piecework as this weekend has to go back to Europe for the Cannes this little joke.
We expect that, upon his return to Europe, we can tell you more news ...
