I liked the piece. No problem with that but I don't think that any of these rumba-samba-like tracks speak for JMJ as being his true music. I think it was a conceptual disaster to include MF Part 5 in the 1981 album, for an instance. Jarre is a master of transitions, as on Chronologie, but when it comes to concepts, sometimes his approach leaves me wondering why a man who can devise such complicated and syncopated percussion rhythms as on Oxygene 7 Part I or on Calypso 2, opts for what seems a standard rumba preset of a children's keyboard. It really puzzles me. If he goes for dance music, let it be something like Tout est Bleu (single version) or even "My Name is Arthur". Not rumba.
I am sorry for disagreeing with you but a fan may express his opinion exactly as he sees it. I prefer to ask questions rather than to swallow everything at its face value, as it were.

It has been mentioned before, that MF5 might have been kind of a joke from JMJ's side. I think he already had China in his mind when he did MF. Equinoxe 8/Band in the rain had the same style of rhythm. That was also a quite different track or part.
These tracks do sound cheap, but don't you think that was the idea? MF5 is based on a chinese composition as far as I remember, so perhaps he already had China in mind when he did MF. MF3 also shows that. JMJ has always been working in a wide range of sounds. That's a part of his style and what makes him unique. He is not just another ordinary electronic musician thinking "this has to sound robotic and synthesized.

This is very strange. From the very start (and Equinoxe was my first experience of his music) I noticed that the ending of Part 8 was Part 5 in a rephrased form, a thing quite common for classical music, to expand the material available by certain means and methods, such as modulation or a tempo change (yet another example would be the single Together Now) etc.

Perhaps he tried to give a bit of a dreamy atmosphere as is present in RV5, but didn't have the means to (sampling)... thus giving it all a bit of a 'playful' character. It doesn't really bother me anyway though...

Agreed! I think Jarre was always being playful in a "child-like" way. I think with MF5 or Oxy8 is is being a little irreverant... letting you know not to take everything so seriously.

Regarding the hang... I meant to say it would sound in that transition between MF3 into MF4. For some reason I said Fishing Junks At Sunset because I was listing to the Concerts in China but, hey c'est la vie man...

Moviemaker, well, I think Zoolook was partly filled with this playful mood, although on the whole this album, and En Attendant Cousteau, seems to be more conceptual and uniform than some other albums. It is important to create a monolith concept, as far as I understand creative work in general, because it helps explore similarities among ideas behind the work and charges the creator with the task of bringing them all together convincingly. This often requires a lot more creativity and continuity of one's original signature than creating one single piece, and the failure to do so is well known in pop music as 'one hit wonders'. Speaking in similarities, a photographer demonstrates his ability and thinking best when his work is presented in a series on a certain subject.

Does Jarre celebrate Christmas?. Only ask due to the lack of interest in a xmas message/greetings to his fans.
