Dalle Piramidi a Tienanmen, da Mont-Saint Michel a Wembley, Jean-Michel Jarre ha fatto delle sue performance live esperienze uniche, capaci di coinvolgere chi guarda in un mondo «surreale», come lui stesso ama definirlo.
Incontrarlo a Parigi, alle 11 di mattina, nella sua cucina, dove un suo assistente mi versa il tè, è in fondo un'altra esperienza surreale: vederlo «svestito» dall'aura magica dei concerti regala un brivido. E anche preoccupazione, perché si dice che Jarre non ami i giornalisti, soprattutto dopo il 2004, dopo la violentissima rottura con lsabelle Adjani, alla quale era legato dal 2002. L'attrice, per «vendicarsi», si concesse un dettagliato «striptease dell'anima» sulla stampa francese che conta, da Paris Match a Elle e L'Express. I sentimenti, le conversazioni intime, il detto e il non detto, messi nero su bianco sui giornali. Un feuilleton distillato a puntate, che inchiodò i lettori francesi.
Ma dopo tre anni e una nuova storia d'amore con un'altra celebre attrice, Anne Parillaud, che si è conclusa col matrimonio, e dopo il nuovo album Téo & Téa uscito in primavera, Jarre appare più disteso. Sulla moquette beige troneggia un divano viola, dove il musicista si siede per l'intervista. Molti libri, un computer e il classico disordine creativo fanno da sfondo a una conversazione in tutta semplicità , che fa dimenticare l'indirizzo sontuoso della casa di Jarre, in Avenue Montaigne.
«In questa casa ho vissuto poco, prima di sposarmi con Anne, ora mi fa da studio», dice mentre comincia a parlare del suo prossimo viaggio in Italia. Sarà infatti lui ad aprire con un megashow il Powerstock Festival, un Live Earth italiano dal 26 al 28 luglio ad Albanella (Salerno).
Torna in Italia dopo dieci anni. Come nasce il progetto?
«È una storia cominciata grazie a Claudia Cardinale e a sua figlia, Claudia anche lei. La mamma, ambasciatrice dell'Unesco come me, dava una mano alla figlia, che fa parte dell'organizzazione del festival, nella ricerca degli ospiti. E un grande evento sull'ambiente non poteva lasciarmi indifferente. Il ruolo di noi artisti, saltimbanchi e intellettuali è anche quello di difendere certi valori. Dobbiamo farlo senza moralismi, toccando le emozioni. Powerstock, poi, porta avanti un'iniziativa che mi sta a cuore, il programma Water for Life: nel mondo ogni minuto un uomo muore per la carenza d'acqua e i bambini sono le vittime principali».
Quali sorprese riserva per Albanella?
«Pace e tolleranza non fanno audience, giocherò d'astuzia. Eviterò le prediche, farò passare il messaggio attraverso la musica: il mio primo disco s'intitolava Oxygène, ho una certa reputazione come portatore di ossigeno, n'est pas?».
Le piace coinvolgere il pubblico sui problemi ambientali?
«Sono un artista, comunicare con la musica è il mio interesse principale. Ma anche le parole sono importanti. Quando i problemi della gente, come i bambini che perdono un rene o muoiono a tre anni avvelenati dall'acqua, finiscono su Vanity Fair, penso che sia stato raggiunto un traguardo. I film di Al Gore, i discorsi e la musica di Bono, l'impegno di tanti artisti ma anche dei politici, sono importanti per raggiungere obiettivi utili a tutti. Ha seguito la recente campagna presidenziale francese? Ségolène e Sarkozy hanno dato ai problemi dello sviluppo sostenibile un posto importante nei loro programmi».
Lei è un musicista «smisurato», che necessità di vedere le cose in grande.
«Quando ho iniziato a fare musica elettronica non c'erano mezzi per rappresentare gli strumenti in scena. Non avevamo pianoforti o violini, ma marchingegni da laboratorio concepiti per essere usati in studio. Per portarli sul palco di un concerto ho dovuto pensare a qualcosa di diverso e mi sono molto ispirato all'opera, soprattutto a quella italiana. In questa dinamica creativa si è inserito un problema tutto mio: sono claustrofobico, nasce da mia madre che ha subito le deportazioni. Per noi è impossibile stare rinchiusi».
Che effetto le fa esibirsi davanti a migliaia di persone, lì tutte per lei?
«Ci si sente protagonisti assoluti, il re del mondo. Ma se non si è totalmente idioti si capisce subito che la gente non è lì solo per te. Viviamo in una società che non ci permette di parlare con il vicino, abbiamo sempre più bisogno di stare spalla contro spalla a condividere qualcosa. Un evento come Powerstock è un'occasione di ritrovarsi insieme in una situazione unica».
Porterà Téo & Téa ad Albanella?
«Probabilmente, anche se considero questo album come un incidente di percorso, qualcosa che non somiglia alla musica che ho sempre fatto. Mi sono voluto fare un regalo dopo un momento molto duro della mia vita. È una specie di film in cui mi sono autoproiettato: mette in scena l'incontro amoroso e tutta l'energia che riesce a scatenare».
È un momento di dolcezza dopo tutta la violenza subita nella fine del rapporto con lsabelle Adjani?
«Come ha fatto a indovinare? Lei parla di violenza, ma è stato molto di più. Quando qualcuno ti sbatte in faccia una vendetta come quella, non la subisci solo tu ma tutto il tuo entourage, i tuoi genitori e i tuoi figli: un vero massacro. E poi per che cosa? Due persone adulte si incontrano e non funziona: non ci sono vittime o carnefici, come lei voleva far credere. Mi dica se non conosce un uomo che si è comportato come me: durante una storia mi sono innamorato di un'altra. Quale orrendo delitto ho commesso? Mi sembra ancora incredibile, soprattutto quando penso al meraviglioso rapporto di amicizia e di affetto che ho mantenuto con Charlotte Rampling (sposati per vent'anni dal 1978 al 1998, ndr), la madre di uno dei miei figli».
Poi ha sposato Anna Parillaud e sono «nati» Téo e Téa.
«Volevo spiegare che quello che cerchiamo tutti non è il sesso, il potere o il denaro, ma l'amore. I miei gemelli sono due Romeo e Giulietta moderni: gli inseguimenti, gli approcci e il contatto con la pelle dell'altro sprigionano energie che sono in tutti noi. Ci sono momenti della vita in cui si diventa tutti Téo e Téa, a 18 come a 70 anni».
Il suo ultimo matrimonio è stata l'occasione per riconciliarsi con suo padre Maurice (autore del celebre Tema di Lara del Dottor Zivago, ndr). Sarà stato importante per la sua formazione.
«Forse inconsciamente, perché mio padre se n'è andato quando avevo 5 anni e non si è più fatto vedere. Una ferita lancinante per tutta l'infanzia, e oltre. Ho pensato tante volte che sarebbe stato meglio un padre morto a uno che non ti cerca, ma sono contento di averlo ritrovato. Però, contrariamente a quello che pensano in molti, il mio quotidiano infantile non si è nutrito del talento di mio padre. Perché lui non c'era».
