Just listened to the "remastered" MF2. OMG. The drums are choking everything, esp. the tom fills. Disgrace.

Jean-Michel Jarre Releases 40th Anniversary Remastered Edition of ‘The Concerts In China’

Jean-Michel Jarre delivers a remastered edition of The Concerts In China four decades after he took the stage in the country for the first time.

Turn back the clock to 1981, and the world was a starkly different place, especially in China, where the country had just recently reopened its borders to those from the West. In the midst of a cultural revolution, the country welcomed Jean-Michel Jarre to perform a historic concert tour that featured five nights at the People’s Stadium of Shanghai and Beijing. These performances were recorded and released the following year as The Concerts In China – and to celebrate the 40th anniversary of its release, the legendary artist has delivered a remastered edition.

Hot on the heels of Jean-Michel Jarre’s latest album, OXYMORE, which gave his global fanbase even more beautiful soundscapes to immerse themselves in, the remastered version of The Concerts In China breathes life into the ground-breaking experience that occurred decades ago. Found within its tracklist are tunes like “Orient Express,” “Night In Shanghai,” “The Last Rumba,” and “Souvenir Of China,” along with a new composition, “Fishing Junks at Sunset,” which was performed with The Peking Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra.

“To this day, The Concerts in China experience remains to be probably the most surreal and poetic of all my experiences. It was an honor to be the first Western musician to play live in the country at that time, and it was like visiting another planet for me; and also for the Chinese audience too it seemed to be the same curious awe… I am delighted that ‘The Concerts in China’ album has been remastered, as it’s something I’m incredibly proud of and remains a testimony of my ongoing attachment to China.” - Jean-Michel Jarre

Here's the 1989 version:
cic1989.mp3

And here the new master:
cic2022.mp3

It' sounds like there's too much compression on it.

And here's the 2014 master which is much less compressed but has a brickwall master:
cic2014.mp3
Geez! Now I regret ordering the 2LP remaster. That is really, really, really horrible. But this is a trend. New sound technicians at concerts are horrible too.

I bought this album on vinyl (I do have the original pressing as well) but I'm extremely disappointed.
Mainly because 2 tracks just skip, sounds like the digital files weren't put to the master correctly or something like that.
I have never heard this on an album before and I have read more complaints about this on Discogs.

Side A:
jarre1.mp3
(574.69 KiB) Downloaded 219 times
Side C:
jarre2.mp3
(812.81 KiB) Downloaded 218 times
(it's not about the audio quality itself, my setup isn't ideal at the moment)

The skips you hear aren't physical skips of the needle, the needle is still in the grooves. This skipping audio is pressed into the grooves!

Wow, I didn't hear that yet myself! This was the vinyl, you say? I want to listen to the cd version this week to hear these skips.
[EDIT] CD version seems to be okay, just checked it myself.

Yeah, just what I thought... Sure, most of these Dadwater releases are merely badly remastered and bland (making even getting the 1997 remasters used more useful), but issues like this and the very first pressing of the 2014/5 re-release of Rendez-Vous just shows the lack of quality control with these re-releases : \

Won't be seeing JMJ make a promotional video apologizing for such overt mistakes any time soon :P

Correct, it's the 2022 RSD remastered vinyl release.
