I think the towers are supposed to be a miniature version of the Houston skyline :D

Exactly :) It must have made more sense close up to the stage, especially with the lighting during the concert.

Not sure, but at least it shares the concept. JM said in some interviews around the time of EIC it was like taking a city on the road.
