What happened at La Defense

Anyone know the answers to the following about the Paris La Defense mega concert, with particular regard to what happened on stage?

1. At what point did JMJ appear during Oxygene 4? On the video he appears on the new "link" between verse and chorus, to play the final chorus. But did he play the earlier chorus?

2. What did JMJ play during Equinoxe 5? Was it the big circular keyboard which lights up that he plays in Magnetic Fields 2? (Would be like Houston/Lyon style performanc).

3. In Souvenir Of China, JMJ plays one of the 4 big light up keys to create a camera click sound. What was the purpose of the other 3 light up keys?

4. What did JMJ play during Rendez-Vous 4? Was it the big circular keyboard (for a Houston/Lyon style performace) or the portable one he used during the two Calypso performances it was sandwiched between?

5. What did the Amoco Renegades do during Rendez-Vous 4? (Just stand around with their steel drums). And the marionettes?

So to sum it up, let's have a full proper DVD of La Defense without the poor editing of wrong skyline footage from the missing tracks!

Many thanks

There's this old news clip from that day that has footage of a screen during Equinoxe 5 where Jarre's playing a standard keyboard.

Then again, it might have been from the rehearsals. I guess I should find that clip from my archives.

And I've wondered about JMJ's appearance during Oxygene 4 ever since I got the radio broadcast, I guess one

I vaguely remember some photo where Jarre was in front of the LAG Circulaire with the Renegades behind him, a shot that wasn't seen at any point during the video... but nevertheless, seeing the actual footage from the track would definitely sort it out 8)

Thanks Finaero, interesting to hear that! Seems a bit weird, especially as JMJ isn't seen playing a standard keyboard at all in any of the official footage!

What really bugs me is that I was there, but didn't see the screens showing what was happening on stage until the musicians were thanked and the Calypso encore :-(

Really miss Equinoxe 5 from the video, my favourite Jarre track of all time. Still can't fathom why JMJ has ignored perfoming it live since PLD! (And ignored it on video since Lyon!)

Okay, here's the news clip.

I guess the stuff before 1:45 is from the rehearsals (damn, PLd rehearsals would be another great gem to have ) and after that it's from the concert itself. Unless the frogspeak says something else :punch:

WOW oh WOW!!! That it is Equinoxe 5 from the actual concert, no question about it. Am really surprised to see JMJ at what appears to be a normal keyboard, especially as I'd always associated it with the big circular keyboard of lights!

Many thanks for that. Memories of 18 years ago (more than half my lifetime ago!) come flooding back. A truly fantastic event.

Now, if anyone can answer the other queries, I'd be absolutely delighted! :-) :-)

On that brief clip, looks like Jarre is standing and Playing Equinoxe 5 in the row of keyboards where Michel Geiss/Guy delacroix/Sylvan Durand were stood

As for the Light triggers, well they were certainly used to trigger samples,as we see on the Video of SOC,but what the others were for??obviously the same thing on other songs?its only cosmetic purposes anyway.

I was at the concert, but we couldn't see on the stage in great detail apart from a nearby screen,so couldn't really help on the relevant Questions and besides I wouldn't remember all those details of each song anyway its 18 years ago!I wouldn't remember intimate details of the recent tour let alone almost 2 decades ago

I do agree that we need a full official DVD release of possibly one of Jarre's finest Concert moments!

He is. I always thought it looked pretty cool, so it's a shame that we haven't got a decent clip of this track.
I remember that I actually did wonder why there was an unused keyboard like that. It's the big Elka MK-88 motherboard that Guy and Sylvain are playing as well. Geiss is playing a similar model but as you all probably know, with the knob keys.

Rendez Vous 4 was played with the big circular keyboard! :-)

I saw some footage at the television the day after from the concert, and they showed, amongst others, the clip of Rendez Vous 4! :-) And there was Jarre in front of his big circular keyboard! :-D That is something you don´t forget!!! :-D

I need to dig out my PLD photobook from the loft, as I'm sure there is a pic of JMJ at his big circular keyboard which looks like it is from one of the unreleased on video tracks.

Another question, can anyone describe the concert programme that was on sale on the day of the concert?

Stupid me got the t-shirt but forgot to get the concert programme!!!!

Thanks everyone for their help on this topic... 18 years of frustration is beginning to ease now!

I have the programme. Apart from some sketches of the PLD venue and some pics of past concerts, its full of ads. Pretty much useless if you compare it to the Docklands programme.

With regards to the programme, that's kind of how I remembered it when I was there and didn't think it worth having. Bizarrely I have the Docklands programme and I wasn't even there! lol

However, I will keep checking eBay to see if one comes up!!!!

One of my all time favourite Jarre shows.

I was there that night and loved it. I have the t-shirt, but cant find the programme. I remember E5 and remember seeing a few snippets on the screens that lined the road way, but I had a couple of families around me who had their children sitting on their fathers shoulders, so view of the small screens were (at times) impaired.
Jarre concerts attended - Destination Docklands 1988 - Paris La Defense 1990 - Europe In Concert 1993 (Manchester & London) - Oxygene Tour 1997 (Birmingham)
