Al Fakhoora satellite channel ended its programming last night with a live
telethon that raised QR38,549,695 which will go to benefit children and
education in Gaza.
Several celebrities, political figures and activists from all over the world
took take part expressing their solidarity with Gaza and encouraging viewers
to contribute.
All collected fund will be sent to Gaza through 'Reach Out to Asia' and will
be used particularly for rebuilding schools and providing post-trauma
treatment to children who have suffered from Israel's recent aggression on
Gaza.
Among the guests that participated in the studio was Miguel d'Escoto
Brockmann, President of the United Nations General Assembly and several
artists from the Arab World such as: Latifa from Tunisia, Syrian actor Ayman
Zeidan, Iraqi singer Kadhum Al Sahir, Irish singer and actor Bob Geldoff and
Lebanese singer George Al Safi. Whereas, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors, Jean
Michel Jarre and Marianna Vardinogianni participated live over the phone.
During its broadcast, AlFakhoora TV hosted several political commentators,
human rights lawyers and experts in child psychology from Qatar and beyond
such as: Dr Najeeb Al Nuaimi, former minister of justice in Qatar; Sheikha
Aisha bint Faleh Al Thani, Executive Board Member of Reach Out To Asia and
Koichiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO as well as many others.
However, the focus of the channel has been on student participation in the
studio as well as video-conferencing with students in Gaza.
AlFakhoora satellite channel is part of an international student solidarity
campaign supported by Her Highness Sheikha Bint Nasser Al Missned, Special
Envoy to UNESCO for Basic and Higher Education with the goal of raising
awareness of the plight of students in Gaza and to appeal to the
international community to raise its voice in insisting that education be
protected during times of war.
