New live album 'Live - Printemps De Bourges 2002' released




Jean Michel Jarre and AERO Prod have released a new live album entitled Jean Michel Jarre - Live Printemps De Bourges 2002', featuring a recording of the concert Jean Michel gave at the Printemps De Bourges festival in Bourges, France, 2002, on March 20th 2006. It's exclusively available on Apple's iTunes Music Store.

Jean Michel was invited to play on the Printemps De Bourges festival, and to discuss the link between early electronic music and modern techno in a debate following the concert. Together with Francis Rimbert, he performed 2 new tracks, improvised on stage and 2 other previously unreleased tracks. The first one being track 2 on the album entitled Metallic Souvenir, which was entitled AOR Bleu during the performance, and which actually dates back to 1971, when it was first performed during the re-inauguration of the Opera Garnier, Paris. It's part of a six-piece ballet Jean Michel composed together with Norbert Schmucki. The other unreleased track is called Metamorphoses and was originally entitled Crazy Saturday which was to be included on the Metamorphoses album.

The music itself is a very intersting combination of early electronic music, and lounge, underground, house and techno styles.

Go and check it out! It's priced 6 bucks or something like that, so that shouldn't be a big deal. It's not available in all countries though...

La musique en elle-même est une combinaison très intéressante d'ancienne musique électronique, lounge, underground, house et techno.

Allez l'écouter ! Elle coûte 6€ et quelques, alors cela ne devrait pas être un gros placement. Il n'est cependant pas disponible dans tous les pays...

As we have discussed, I will add this release to my discography website. Although it has no physical shape (i.e. no real disc to hold in your hands). Maybe we as fans have to get used to this form of Jarre's releases in the future..?

Yes, I think so, this seems to be the medium of the future, as much as I do dislike that...

this leads me to the point where I have to think about not collecting Jarre anymore. I am an old-fashioned collector who needs to get his hands on collectables. I am not very happy to have a virtual collection... but that will be another thread

Anyway: as soon as the new section with "Bourges" gets online, I will announce it... (or make sure to check www.jarre.ch frequently)

I'm not sure this will be the way of releasing of the future, think about it: there's huge quality loss putting out music like this, and the copyright issue is far from solved, not to mention recent DRM issues. I think they have to come up with something better.

A very complicated but effective way of avoid illegal spreading of software used by KORG: supply a usbkey with which you have to activate the software..

Don't you forget there will be new types of "physical medias" in the near future? And they will be able to contain HUGE amounts of information...that's quality me thinks.

Yeah, I get your point. I hope those blue-ray discs will be the new media rather then iTunes-only-mp3s...!

Better ever than never

It's very sad to see that instead of going ahead in terms of quality we just get back with mp3...
We have on one hand Super Audio CDs (SACDs) and DVD Audio, on the other side the 40 GB Mp3 players with everything downloadable from everywhere isnide.
Pro Audio should go towards the first two, IMHO of course.
I'd have preferred a SACD of this live album rather then an iTunes release.

About copy protection... well, until the owners of the media copyright are the same who produce the media and the writers to produce home made copies, I see very little chances...

I might be completely crazy, but if artists want to be safe about copyright there should be medias that have nothing to deal with home copiable medias.
Try to do a vinyl record at home...
Ok just kidding, everyone can do analog/digital recording of a media and then make and share mp3s.
But at least a non clonable media has an extra value for me as a buyer.

Last comment about Korg (...)
Well GeeJee, as a Korg M1 and Wavestation owner I feel very betrayed by Korg.
They made software clones of our hardware synths, paid a lot of money back then, and they did not involve any Korg hardware, meaning that those sounds are free to any peer to peer boy with a cracked version. Oh, there's already a cracked version out there.
No hardware manufacturer did that (to my knoledge);
Access did Virus, but only for Powercore and ProTools TDM; Hartman involved the Nuke controller; Roland involeves the VariOs hardware.
Why should I purchase an Oasys when maybe in a couple of years there can be a crickcrack free version somewhere?

I'm really upset about this ITunes release. I live in the United States and can't order it. I've writen Itunes dozens of times. They don't answer unless its a technical support problem.

Thing is, you can only buy things once at iTunes......
