Hi folks, atm I'm trying to find a freeware (preferrably Open Source) program that is able to show the current frequenzies of an audio file graphically, without showing too much detail.
Something alongside this:


(That is not a standalone program, and the program it depends on costs $.)

It should preferrably have around 10 || ("posts"?), and have the size of a YouTube window.
Yes, that's what I want to use it for, so while we're at it, do you know of any good freeware screen recorder program?
The most convenient would be that the first mentioned program had the possibility to record itself and save as video, but I reckon that could be even harder to find.

Any good ideas?

The thing you are looking for is indeed called a Spectrum Analyzer.

And there are also tools for capturing videos from your computer, but have no experience in this area.

Of course I cheked out this, but let's for example take a look at the first page, where there are many different ways to show off the spectrum.
Spectrum Analyzer pro Live 2009 and CD-Runner 2009.01 seems to be most relevant, but the first one is payware and the second one is too small in size for a YouTube "video".

And I thought I wasn't the first to think of such a tool....

Oh, sorry for not telling the OS. I'm using Windows XP.

IXL has some nice stuff... It's freeware, afaik, and has a lot more different metering stuff. (All separate VST's, so no unnessecary junk on your screen). I can't find the link atm, but if you want, I could upload the dll's?
