La Concorde fireworks and visuals question

As we all know, the vhs tape barely features any real live footage from the concert, except for a few fragments. But what I find rather unusual are the fireworks sounds.

If you watch the TV version, you can hear them going off but they are not as loud compared to what you hear on VHS or in the documentary.

See for yourself:

"Making the steamroller fly' documentary - at 4:20
-Notice how loud and massive the explosions are. A lot of BOOM and BANG. But strange thing here is the visuals, tv recording has these visuals on other tracks. So was it a specially edited fragment ?

Official VHS (Videogramme) - at 2:34
-Lots of BOOM again, same as above but I wonder why is there only a small portion of firework noises at that moment, and then none till the end of the song? Fake noises ?

Tv version - around 4:49
-Fireworks seem to be going off all the way through equinoxe 5, but yet they are not as loud or 'strong-sounding' as in any of the above. Why ? Poor recording equipment?

So what exactly is real and what is fake or edited? And finally, onto what were the visuals projected exactly? Buildings?

Hope someone can clear things up.

I've got to admit that the Place de la Concorde gig has never interested me that much because of the extra-blatant playback (the Equinoxe 7 Concorde single version is quite nice, though) and the lack of proper footage.

If I remember correctly, the 'Making the Steamroller Fly' documentary had some genuine concert footage where you could actually see the buildings and projections. Can't remember if there were any fireworks but just about every official concert release has tampered with the fireworks sounds (BBC Egypt 2000 gig Oxygene 10 comes to mind, not to mention Equinoxe 4 PLD).

Why guessing when you can check the link above? I don't see a lot of buildings in that fragment, except maybe from a really far-away camera angle. But how do they even fake explosion sounds? Did they launch fireworks separately for the final editing?

It's really sad that this playback has so little actual known footage, seeing how much we got for the China concert, you would expect that this one would atleast have more actual real footage then it has. Plus the VHS/Betamax release was a scam no matter how you look at it :(

I don't care about the playback, and don't think anyone did back then. But it's a bummer that the real video is unavailable to us.

So, I still don't get it, the documentary fragment is real , and tv version isn't ? And why is it that the real buildings with projections aren't shown, instead we see slides in full screen, as if it's just a feed for tv, not the actual projections like on the pictures above?

That to me feels the same as asking why all the other VHS releases have such horrible editing and visuals which weren't part of the concert. What does most footage of the China concert have to do with he actual concert..?

It's one big mystery why Jarre concerts suck so hard on official releases...

But still, they seem too perfect, unless the buildings were covered with something..

By the way, the performance wasn't entirely playback, Oxygene 5 and Equinoxe 8 didn't match up with the album versions. + there was remix of Equinoxe 4. And even if other songs were just played, then where was the player or tape machine? I didn't see it, did you? So...not a playback unless you can catch him in the act :punch:

I'll have to relisten to the concert, but the Remix of Equinoxe 4 was also released on a Blue Translusent Vinyl record :P

I hate to break it to you, but you can't play live music, by turning knops on a mixer!

Where's your sense of humor.. I was just kidding. But either way, it doesn't bother me if he's playing live or not, it's his music for god's sake..he can do whatever he wants with it. And honestly, I even prefer playback because 'concerts in china' really sucked live.

Here's some info regarding projections.

Image

It's google translate but I tried to make some sense in the last paragraph. Somebody with french knowledge, please clarify.

records

The concert on the Place de la concorden'a not gave rise to the first album 'live' by Jean Michel Jarre, music not being quite different from studio albums. A 45 "Jarre concord" was released with versions 7 and unpublished equinox of the orchestra in the rain. It is however very likely that these pieces have been reworked in the studio and what was not fit in. wait to hear the evening of July 14, 79.

The video side, same conclusion: the images that were shot pendantle ment final concert being fairly static, the choice was made to add images filmed in the studio. The result? "Jarre Videogramme Musical", a clim a half hour of music from Equinoxe and oxygen, which has more to do with the concert itself, but despite this very interesting reveals. Besides the fact that he will be one of the first VHS tapes on the marketing, this film is an audio-visual aewre ENTERE apart, with some graphic experiments that prefigure JArKaos ands with almost 20 in advance, the interactive less

The concert was broadcast live on TF 1 as part of a special show entitled "Paris Bleu Blanc Rouge". The director had directly integrated the images that were projected onto the buildings' facades (?), which gives the highlight advantage..(?) but does not capture the show itself. At the end, the film focuses heavily on the fireworks forgetting the rest. In short it gives an idea of the concert, without fully recreating the atmosphere.
