Strange things regarding "Concerts in China"

We all agree that the "Concerts in China" CD is a studio album, right?
Does anyone then know, why there is a cut in Equinoxe VII at 4:42 ??

I've always thought is was a very critical error or power failure that was edited out, but it shouldn't be necessary if it was a studio album ?

Also one other thing makes me wonder. The bass in 100% the as on the record, so I don't believe this was played again, but it is much much more bright/less filtered. Could this be the original bass sound, that was EQ'ed og filtered even more on the Equinoxe Album?

A mixed part studio and part live album I would suggest.
I don't remember the cut and bass you've observed so I have to give it another spin I think.
Btw is the LP vs CD version the same here do you know?

edit/ Haha I'm not sure if it's a "cut" there. I think it sounds more like JMJ's bad timing while playing is shining through there. :P
However the case I agree. It would be almost impossible to just let go of a thing like that during a normal studio session.
Another thing is to fake the echoes, delays and overall room atmosphere from drums and stuff like that. Remember it's 1982.
Even if surround sounding techniqe already existed it would be one heck of a job to make it sound that realistic.

My last offer: PLAYBACK! Some added instruments up until the cut and then it sounds just like the original studioalbum track yet with the arena characteristics in the sound. :)

The whole music cuts too, so it's not just his usual playing-fail ;)

My problem is, if you hear those few released real audio clips from the concert, you can hear it is much different from the record. EQ7 is 100% like the record, and therefor 99% playback as we know, and the fail should not accur.

I think it sound the same.
The first clip though, is mixed so the whole refreing with the error is taken out.

You are right the first clip doesn't really show the cut but it shows JMJ playing something totally different towards the end of the track
then what you hear on the album CiC or the Equinoxe albums for that matter.
Possibly made exlusively for the video, or was it "the real" live recording?
It's hard to know "what is what" and maybe that was the whole idea by mr Dreyfuzz? ;)

Edit: I guess it's probably just a mastering error, all releases I own have this (Polydor ‎– 811 551-2, Disques Dreyfus ‎– FDM 36160-2 and Polydor ‎– 2612-039), so I assume it's part of the mastertape where the problem lies in :)

I did read a while back saying that the Concerts In China album was recorded entirley in a studio in Paris shortly after the tour, problems with power drop outs in China, JMJ not too happy with overall sound quality. Have a look at this clip... i suggest that while JMJ was re-recording the China Album he also created the Magnetic Fields 4 promo clip too.

You can make out Frederick Rousseau in the background and clearly Roger Rizziteli on drums.

But the mastertape didn't fail when he played EQ7 in all the following concerts from 1981-2012

I'm not talking about the mastertape of the Equinoxe album, I'm talking about the mastertape that was made for this album. I think somewhere the mastertape for this album just got cut for some reason or maybe was damaged and nobody ever bothered to fix it or no one noticed it over in France :)

To bad, would love to hear the actual full concert, it has been recorded that we know. But if the recordings are still in Jarre's fault or even in good enough condition to be transferd into the digital realm, that's sadly a mistery :(
