Johan Jonason leaves Sweden and a Europe in crisis, and heads to Shanghai. His goal is to establish himself as a pop singer in China because that’s where the future seems to be. In Shanghai, Johan meets various people involved in the Chinese music industry – producers, DJs and promoters who give him insights into the new, young and contradictory China. Conquering China is an emotional and humorous music documentary that examines and problematizes the
paradigm shift taking place in our world right now.

”I wanted to make a personal and exotic documentary about China, exploring the western view of the country as well as the real China itself.”

Don't want to sound negative but to me it feels like Jean Michel is going to have a very small part in this movie...maybe telling the same old story from the concerts in china era.
It seems like an art project focusing on this Johan Jonason.
Just a thought running through my head. What ever happens it's fun if JMJ is partisipating
in some way or the other.

Elf wrote: It's an incredibly dull and embarrassing "documentary." I'm convinced that the Swedish artist they follow is a character they used to pull a prank on the Chinese. I even said as much on the documentary's Facebook page, but they claimed in their answer that this was not the case.

The main character can't even sing, and it's so obvious that the Chinese producers he meets up with find him completely ridiculous. I had to put a pillow in front of my face and ended up fast forwarding through the last half only to see if there was more Jarre sequences.
I couldn't agree more. They should've called it "looser lost at china clubs" or something similar. :P
However i love the small part where JMJ has a small meeting with a child.
