First there was Bells I, and it was the album I heard first so (un)consciously I compare the later albums to that one. With Bells II there are a number of things going on,
first the superb recording and production techniques he wanted to show off since "Amarok" and right he was, crystal clear sound, fitting the nature of the album. Because
second, he wanted to show (off) where he was at the time with the synths and the whole digital domain. But
third he wanted to keep the link with Bells I by largely copying the theme progression through the album.
Bells III has only a remote link to Bells I and was largely recorded on Ibiza where he took some dance influences from the nightclub scene into his compositions. When I first heard the trance/dance influences on this album I thought it was pathetically late and out of place (like when Jarre incorporated scratched DJ effects on Chronologie). But I still like all of them Bells albums, I don't know, he has something
