La Semaine du Son raises awareness among the public and all stakeholders in society about the importance of sound and the quality of our sound environment. Lectures, debates, workshops, sound events, concerts, screenings, educational actions, highlight the societal issues of sound and are accessible to everyone for free, except express mention in the program.

The 14th edition of La Semaine du Son is held from Monday, January 23, 2017 until Sunday, February 5, throughout France, under the patronage of UNESCO. Sponsored by Michel Drucker and Dr. Shelly Chadha.

The 15th edition will be held from Monday, January 22 to Sunday, February 4, 2018.

Musical evening at UNESCO headquarters in the presence of Jean-Michel Jarre

While UNESCO has just adopted a resolution resulting from the charter drawn up by the Semaine du son, the association unveils the Parisian aspect of the event, which will be held from 22 January to 4 February 2018.

The top floor of the UNESCO headquarters in Paris hosted a parterre of eminent and diverse personalities on Thursday, November 16, to announce the highlights of the 2018 Sound Week. Audrey Azoulay, former minister and new director general of UNESCO came to greet the audience, before Christian Hugonnet, founding president of the association, took the floor to present the sponsor of this edition: Jean-Michel Jarre. The composer did not hesitate to take out of his pocket the hearing protections that never leave him, he said, adding that "all classes of music should begin with an apprenticeship on ways to attenuate the sound".

"One billion people with hearing loss"

To bring this scourge to the forefront, La Semaine du Son can count on a renowned sponsor. A world-renowned musician with 80 million albums sold, a forerunner in the world of electro music, Jean-Michel Jarre masters his subject on the tip of his fingers: "More than a billion people around the world are hard of hearing. As an artist, it's important to think about how music is distributed. It is about consuming it intelligently. Paris being a high-place of the party, it would be a question of favoring earplugs in concerts for example ".

Improve the city

Proof of awareness, the charter of the week of sound defining objectives to be achieved was adopted by the General Conference of Unesco. "The problem of noise pollution must be considered upstream, emphasizing prevention, no longer on healing," asserts Christian Hugonnet. At these words, Jean-Michel Jarre agrees willingly. "The silence between the notes counts a lot in music. It must also count in a city, where the ambient noise is that of engines. The emergence of silent transport, like electric cars, is good news.
