Sónar launches Sónar Calling GJ 273b, a pioneering project uniting music and science to connect and communicate with alien life.

In a bid to talk to aliens, we're beaming some mathematical music into space. The transmission will travel over 70 trillion miles to one of Earth's nearest habitable planets in the hope of reaching intelligent extraterrestrials.

Among the artists who recorded pieces for transmission were Autechre, Richie Hawtin, Carsten Nicolai, Modeselektor, Laurent Garnier, Holly Herndon, Matmos, Jean-Michel Jarre, Nina Kraviz, The Black Madonna, Kate Tempest, Kode 9, Laurel Halo and Daito Manabe.

"When I was invited to participate in the project I felt very proud and excited and it made me think about the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind . That's why I edited only the Oxygene 4 theme, probably the simplest melody and also the most successful one in my catalog. This theme, this melody has been able to thrill many people. It is a mixture of happiness and melancholy. Being light and shadow at the same time, it seems to me a good summary of who we are."
