A while ago I saw a bootleg DVD of 12DOTS on a flea market. I bought it for giggles as I had never seen that one before (and neither afterwards). Has anyone seen this?

It's a 2 DVD-R set in a regular DVD case. While not pressed, this looks somewhat "professional", as a label is printed on the discs (same image on both discs). There's even a barcode on the sleeve: 1 2434794 68341.

Why they used a blackletter typeface for the titles is anyone's guess, but hey, who am I to judge the creativity of bootleggers? ;-)

The volume labels of the discs read VOL_20041127084731 and VOL_20041127064339, so that's a late 2004 "pressing".

As for the video itself, it's the M6 broadcast (M6 logo at top right). Sometimes the picture is the regular 4:3 ratio of the time, sometimes it's 16:9, as if portions were resized.

I've not seen this one ever. Might this be a private pressing? How is the image and sound quality? Looks like it's been tampered with if the image switches between 4:3 and 16:9 (odd decision if you ask me).

It could be a private pressing, but I doubt it. They wouldn't have bothered with a barcode, and wouldn't have printed a description of the show on the back. Also the sleeve is professionally printed, it's not from a personal inkjet or laser printer.

As for the video quality, it's not great - it seems to be a VHS recording digitized to DVD.

Regarding the ratio, I had another quick look at the video. While the ratio of the picture does change, the overall ratio of the "screen" doesn't, i.e. the 4:3 ratio is full screen, and the 16:9 ratio has black bands at the top and bottom that make it 4:3, and the placement of the M6 logo doesn't change throughout. So I suspect this is how the concert was actually broadcast, as resizing the images of the recording would have changed the placement of the logo. Maybe they used 2 types of cameras for the shooting.

It's just a fun item to have as I only paid like €2 for it, so, good value.

Oh, good value indeed!

I'll have to watch the video I have to check if it happens there too. Gives me a good reason to rewatch it, it's been a while :-)

If you are interested in sharing this one, I could try to work on denoising it. See my work in the other thread.

Yes, that could be interesting, thanks!

I can upload a rip of the first disc, then you can see what you can do with it. If you'd like to actually proceed I can then upload a rip of the second disc. I will try to upload in the next few days and will let you know - bear with me, it's going to be a busy week for me.

No problem. I am just imagening that I may already own the disc or at least a similar rip. But just to be sure, I would like to check yours out as well.

Btw if you have seen my thread on remastered vids, I have done some work on the 1 hour broadcast (the one in 4:3 format). The original looks even better since youtube adds compression. I am planning to share the mkv files eventually when I get them sorted out.
