Not sure where to post this one, but just stumbled on this on YouTube.
What the heck is this? A mash up of Zoolook and some fan made music to re-create the tracks unique to the Supermarkets album??
It's good to listen to though...

Always a fan of hearing Per Kristian Risvik's MFS 1 cover, but a shame that the bootleg book guy has earned money off of it : \

Hello there JMJ fans! :)

I am the owner of the two videos posted above, which at first I created two and a half years ago to have fun in a certain way, as a kind of personal challenge... I was clearly inspired by other previous fan-made covers, like the one from 2010 (superbly done, by the way). So, after obtaining all the necessary tracks, then joining and arranging them with Audacity sound editor, almost unexpectedly I really liked how the result had turned out, so in the end I decided to publish it as a YT video for sharing it with everyone...

I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for your attention, and have a nice day! 8)

Btw latest Radek's cover of MSF1 is amazingly close to the original... It's clearly using the same samples/instruments, but it only needs a bit more "atmospheric" sound. It's a bit of a dry mix. I can't quite tell what's missing. Some type of ambience perhaps ?

Actually here is the best rendition of the same piece. Although here it's MSF7 (this constant confusion if someone starts the numbering with MSF1 or "overture")

So I've been reading some old threads and came across a link to the link interview with Dreyfus's assistant.

Anyway, it says there was a "safety copy" kept that was never used... Is this common knowledge?

What was destroyed at the Music For Supermarkets auction has been interpreted in a few different ways. The fact is the master plates (or "mother record" as JMJ called it) used to press the vinyl was burned in front of the auction participants. The multitrack tapes which were mixed to the master tape, which in turn was used to manufacture the master plate are still in existence. Danielle Feuillerat suggests that Dreyfus (now BMG) had / has the backup copy of the master tape (safety copy). JMJ (re)mixed the multitrack tapes or used the original (?) master tape for the Planet Jarre excerpt.

Yea, I'm curious if the safety copy is still there then it would be even easier to just ... use that for... some kind of backup release.... ? Then there is no point in chasing the vinyl, we need to chase the safety copy

The fact that they didn't have any contact with the buyer is also a bit odd. Perhaps JMJ bought it himself through someone :D It says they wanted attention of the media... So they surely got it :)

Another interesting piece of info found from this thread . So it was "a nice guy who was into buying and selling houses". Danielle Feuillerat however claims he was not known.... Also the album was "a demo for zoolook."

Now that I'm remembering. The story was widely known. The owner was M. Gerard, he was filmed for the interview. I think yt removed it now... But searching through old threads, he resold it . I don't think he's even alive anymore.
