Hi guys

I have a Roland JD-08 Boutique and I converted the sounds from original sysex by Francis Rimbert to Roland JD-08 and Roland Cloud.

In this archive you can find the original sysex files from Rimbert, backup of JD-08 with factory sounds (Bank A&B)+ Rimbert's sounds (Bank C&D) and Roland Clouds sounds. You can find also JDTools, an utility than I have used for conversion.
https://www.mediafire.com/file/uyaedo5s ... s.zip/file

*for load sounds into JD-08 please refer to instruments manual in restore backup section.

Best Regards.

Thanks, man! I got hold of a JD-800 Chronologie 2 lead .syx file right after the Roland Cloud JD-800 VST was released, but since no one made a similar preset converter for the VST as they did for the D-50, I lost interest. This should do fine 8)

Sounds good - many thanks! 8) https://soundcloud.com/virtualstudioabuse/cover-chrono2

Tried to convert the organ .syx file I already had - even tried the "JDTools convert syx <input.file> <output.syx>" method but the resulting file was 0kb in size and completely empty - but Roland Cloud couldn't load it. Other .syx files I tried (KBMag.syx for example) were processed just fine. Included the .syx file here just in case.

Opening the original patch itself in Notepad (for what it's worth) does show some content and a patch name, tho'

I also tried to convert your VST file to bin format with the following command:

Code: Select all

D:\Roland JD-800\Chrono_Organ>JDTools convert bin Chrono_Organ.syx Chrono_Organ.bin
Converting JD-800 patch format to JD-800 VST...

but is not work... it say "The file could not be read"

Nice! Do you try to identify all the patches provided in the Rimbert's Banks ? As I remember there are many patches with names that don't give clues about which song the patch is related.

I should mess around with those presets a bit more, but indeed there are many presets that are named something JMJ related (Oct Strings JMJ for example, which I can't really recognize as such from any JMJ track). A lot of them indicate that they've been used in Fishing Junks at Sunset (likely the Hong Kong version, possibly 2004 China but I'm not sure), for example: EssaiTheme Jonq, DEBUT JONQ etc.

But one of the presets that I instantly recognize isn't named after a JMJ track - it's just called Super CS80 ;)

Yes that is what I noticed when I had a JD800 but many of them have strange names. The 12DoTS bank is also interesting but it is the same than the chronologie, not so much details about tracks they have been used in.

It reminds me of the Keyboards magazine Roland D-50 JMJ/Rimbert patches ("full strings", "hq bass" or something like that) and how I couldn't really place them on any JMJ tracks of the time (whether WFC, Revolutions or PLD). Maybe one of them was used for the string lead of Equinoxe 4 @ PLD (in lieu of the Eminent), but I never made a true comparison of them

In the .txt file you have all the names of each patch but..... seems really complicated to identify them (some of them are obvious... but many are not!).

I am curious if Rimbert select all the patch according the tracklist of the concert starting with patch 1 and ending with patch 88, or different order.

Here is a copy.paste of the .txt file, we can start to identify sounds if you are motivated!

Also to note: the Rimbert banks also include some JD-800 factory presets as well - Fusion Solo, Iceman, Aurora Borealis for example.

I am curious about how they organised sound banks for live concerts. Is it freestyle or is it very clean… no idea.

I can see some sounds with « fus » at the end any idea what it means ? ÉQUINOXE VIIfus for example
