..... it's 2048..... Jean Michel Jarre has just died aged 100..... what do you think would be his greatest legacy?

Probably the recordbreaking concerts, as those are recognised by everyone as being spectacular, even those who don't really like his music.

Yes the concerts : demonstrating that EM could be displayed as grand, as imginative as stylish as any other music format, without being lab technicians.

For Music : popularising what is somewhat the "common" EM music composition format :
Bass, Percussion, Sequence, Pads, Melody, FX.
Though JMJ had moved away from this somewhat as early as Magnetic Fields
(but still appearing once in a while in some later album tracks).

For other musicians: By largely helping popularise EM and brining it out of the labs,
thus inspring many musicians, producers, composers around the world;
and non musicians and young people to make EM.

And for many : giving flight to their dreams and fantasies through his albums and concerts.

And overall : his vision and multifaceted creativity.

As with everything associatted with JMJ all the press will tell everyone is he is the artist who recorded the groundbreaking Album "Oxygene"....

Almost every damn journalist seems to not realised he Did actually do something else after it!!!!


But still it would probably take a tragedy of him passing away before anyone would fully apprecciatte his influence or take any notice of his works in the EM scene....

And all the people that were not that into Jarre will really find out how good he was and that they knew his music all their lives and that he have touched their hearts. Which will be hypocrite to say but nontheless then it will be so in to like his music and he will be placed on a list where he is next to Elvis and Beethoven in the importance of how influental his music has been to the rest of the world. And we who writes in this forum and other Jarre-forums will nod and say I told you so. But we will think that those people are just part of the hype that is created when good artists die!

Well, I think he will leave behind a great source of inspiration for the people who haven't discovered him yet.

The fact he made electronic music

And his concerts. Even my 60 years old aunt was impressed by his "concorde" concert. (She was accidental in Paris then).

I think with Oxygene he definately made cultural impact just as Star Wars did at the same time, and the reverbaration of that impact can still be felt by those with ears


As for the press only knowing about Oxygene and only ever mentioning Oxygene, - - what the hell does the press know anyway, bunch of turds that have to print shite that the government tells them to! And reporting whats really going on - oh no we can't have that!!!


Jarre is terribly unrecognised in other parts of the world apart from Europe, and that is exactly like the composers of the 18th and 19th centuries - it still takes bloody civilization a 100 years to wake up and go "Oh".

Oxygene 1-7 legacy. That is all he is known for if he was living or had died to most people I know.

For me he would be remembered as the only greatest electronic composer and his grand/brilliant speculator concerts. This is how he outstands from the rest of the musicians. He definitely gives inspiration to other artists.

Oh I would be very sad if he died before me.
