I'm not sure I'd dare listening to that past midnight all alone in the dark. :P
I think that's the effect he was going for - the same with La Cage - HIASS is utter genius - an atonal masterpiece IMO.

jarrepaul wrote:Pat how do you burn a 4 channel mix. Which programme do you use. How different is it from the cd.
I use Magix. The files from qobus are available in:

WMA 1.079 Gb
ALAC 1.047 Gb
FLAC 1.047 Gb
WAV 1.725 Gb
AIFF 1.725 Gb

I can play them through my PC's sound card to my Home Theatre system in 96kHz / 24bit,
or through my Pioneer DVD-A player at 48kHz / 24bit. (For some reason my player can't play back the files at 96kHz ...

The 4 channel surround is a feature of the software. You have a choice of using fancy surround effects to DVD-Video format or 4 channel surround to a DVD-Audio format disc.
Personally, I tried a few formats, and settled on a DVD-Audio disc with no surround effects, and a DVD-Video disc with a minimal surround track.

Edit:

I found out that Magix won't allow a 2 channel stereo mix, it just downmixes from 4 channel, mutes the surround channels, and downscales to 44.1 kHz

the program is better

Love the rarities and enjoying the overall work (graphic design, mixing).

Vitalic tracks are not bad, neither.

OK, I have the full version, that might be the cause of some differences.

Did you burn it as a DVD-Audio (DVD-A) format disc or conventional DVD ?
If you burned it as a DVD-A, you need a player that plays DVD-A discs (either standalone player or software through PC or Mac), not all DVD players play DVD-A format discs.
If you don't have DVD-A playback capability, you can still burn the files to a conventional DVD disc with Dolby Digital sound.
The DVD-A format is not the same as the audio on a conventional DVD disc.

DVD-Audio Wikipedia

You can also burn to Blu-Ray disc.
Hope this is of help :)

...if you have a BR disc-burner. ;)

Do you need some special DVD discs for burning DVD-A or are you able to use any standard DVD-R/RW for burning the information with a proper software?
My Denon player will play DVD-A but I've no idea about the correct type of files for it...

Quite correct :D

Any blank type of DVD disc will do fine, I find using the record once type (DVD-R or DVD+R) better than the re-recordable type (DVD-RW or DVD+RW), because they are slightly more reflective, and fail less often in my experience.
You can burn almost any type of audio file to a DVD-A disc, the software will format it for playback, but it's pointless to use files that are not of the highest quality to take advantage of the format.
The studio masters from qobuz are such files. I have two discs using those file: a stereo DVD-A burned to a DVD-R disc, and a 5.1 mix burned to Blu-Ray. The files I used were the 1.7 GB WAW lossless file - utterly top notch quality. :D

No luck at all. I've tried about 6 different programmes. They have all burned in UDF which will play on the pc using VLC player. The WAVE files downloaded from Qobec or whatever it's called play fine with windows media player just cannot get the dvd to work. My dvd is a 5.1 surround system not a year old so it should play DVD-A disks. I am currently updating the firmware in the hope that this works.

Waste of money if i cannot get this to work.

Check the player and see if it has this logo:

DVD-Audio Logo

If it doesn't, it won't play discs burned to DVD-A format. You will have to burn discs to the conventional DVD format. The Solo software I have allows you to burn to CD, DVD, DVD-A and Blu-Ray in the menu tabs. DVD-Audio is not the same as audio on conventional DVD discs.
