Jarre + the ladies

I listen to a lot of instrumental music and mostly it's electronic. I go to lots of concerts and visit Internet forums like this where like-minded people talk about it all.

One common theme throughout is that instrumental synth music appeals mostly to guys, there's an element of the 'anorak' that gets a little nerdy about the equipment and how the music is created. Almost all the concerts I go to apart from the odd girlfriend that has been dragged along the audience is usually about 95% male.

I remember seeing an interview with the band Node that they were slightly horrified that their audience seemed to consist of nothing but male nerds, what's the point being in a band if it doesn't get you the chicks!

However Jarre seems to be the exception (Brian Eno possibly too), his audience is a good mix, of male & female + hardcore obsessives :) but I was wondering why the difference.

Sure a lot of synth musos are faily anonymous, hiding behind their equipment and music whereas Jarre has always played the celebrity card, he did have that impossibly glamorous wife that elevated him to the top of the cool tree but that was a while ago now, but the mix remains?

So what's his secret?

Hehe!!! This discussion reminds me of a very strange situation that happened to me, almost ten years ago. I had passed my A-levels and thus my best friend invited me to a one-week trip to Paris. 8) For I really wanted to be there about the time when the B&O store was about to open at the Champs-Elysees, I asked him if we could go there around that date. :D Then "J-day" came, me and my friend stood in front of the store among many other people waiting for what would happen. Suddenly, a blonde thirty-something French woman came over to my place. Honestly saying, I thought she must have been really crazy over JMJ imho for she persistently repeated "He is so cute!"
