The winners of The Stephen Hawkings Medal were announced this year at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Author and astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson won the Science and Writing category and shares his thoughts with RT America's Trinity Chavez. Chavez also speaks with the winner of the Music category Jean-Michel Jarre.

Winning in the music/art category this year is Jean-Michel Jarre, a French electronic music composer whose work has been largely inspired by space, technology and science fiction.
Neil deGrasse Tyson and Jean-Michel Jarre will receive the Stephen Hawking Medal for Science Communication this year. Garik Israeliank, astrophysicist and creator of Starmus, made the big announcement on June 6 at the Rose Center for Earth and Space in the American Museum of Natural History.

The Stephen Hawking Science Medal is presented at the Starmus festival, Trondheim, on Tuesday, June 20, to creators of ‘The Big Bang Theory’ Neil deGrasse Tyson and Jean-Michel Jarre.
This prestigious award is an honour that recognises contributions to the field of science communication. Previous winners of the award include composer Hans Zimmer and documentary maker Marc Levinson.
The fourth Starmus International Festival that celebrates astronomy, space exploration, chemistry, physics, art and medicine will run from June 18 until June 23 at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim.
