It was announced yesterday that I will be headlining @StarmusFestival festival VII in Bratislava, Slovakia in May 2024. Starmus is co-founded by the legendary musician and Astrophysicist Brian May & Professor Garik Israelian.
The event brings together the greatest minds in astrophysics, computer science, neuroscience, microbiology, and biochemistry and I’m delighted to be performing a very special public concert in the heart of the city. More info to be announced soon from the @StarmusFestival @ESET

I've spent a bit of time on Google Earth looking around Bratislava and can’t see any obvious location for a classic City In Concert format show.

It has no skyline of any real drama (Houston) and although it the mighty River Danube flows through the city, the buildings along the northern edge don’t afford a riverside backdrop (Lyon). I can’t find any Soviet-era big, one-off buildings that could act as a single point of reference (Moscow State University). It has some industrial areas beyond the city centre (Docklands) but none of these suggest a visual setting that would inspire.

What I think might happen is a more intimate show in and around Bratislava Castle and this could become a mix of his performance at Liébana, and his Élysée Palace show. The old buildings could accommodate some projections (as the monastery did in Liébana and way back at Place de la Concorde, images onto the facades of the Hotel de Crillon and Hotel de la Marine) but if it is Bratislava Castle, then it would be a much, much smaller concert than the grand old days of JMJ past.

There was a post by a slovak musician with a photo of him and JMJ, saying he'l be working with him... which gives me some hope

Jean-Michel Jarre receives GIFF Award

Unfortunately I cannot get excited for this performance considering it's just going to be another 'look at me kids, I'm relevant' performance where Jean-Michel thinks he is a modern EDM artist completely ignoring his entire back catalogue in favour of his recent EDM phase/re-workings of a few of his classic hits.

I wonder how you can read this out of the very scarce information that is given so far regarding this concert. I think the announcement that the concert will be "in the heart of the city" and the involvement of a classical musician who is also director general of the Slovakian national theatre makes hope that it might be something different.

I’m basing my statements based off everything he has done over the past couple of years (including the Xmas day ‘concert’). It is virtually certain that this show will be nothing more than an elaborate playback of EDM-ified versions of his classics and this Oxymore EDM mess. The inclusion of a few other elements won’t change the core fact that he’ll just be onstage himself acting like a glorified DJ miming to augmented playback. Jarre’s history since 2018 up to the Xmas day concert is a solid enough foundation to make and stand by my original comment as it’s evidence based, not hope based like your comment.

Interview - Technology is neutral – we should not be afraid of it, says Jean-Michel Jarre

The first contact that French musician Jean-Michel Jarre had with outer space dates back to his childhood, when he became totally obsessed with a tape recorder. It was a 10th birthday present from his grandfather, an oboe player, engineer and inventor.

“One day I played the tape backwards and I thought that aliens were talking to me,” recalled the pioneer of electronic music.

Jarre will be one of headliners at the next Starmus festival, a major international event that combines science, art and music. Its seventh edition will take place in several Slovak cities from 12 to 17 May, with the main programme taking place in Bratislava. This time it will focus on Earth.
