There have been rumours of Jean-Michel Jarre being involved in the opening and/or closing ceremonies this summer. Maybe behind the scenes, directing and advising, even if not performing on stage. Has anything been confirmed yet? Please post here!

Seeing the pathetic conditions in Paris, I would not wonder he might withdraw from any involvement.

We know not much of the closing ceremony, I would be very surprised if he's featured in the opening ceremony since it is Gotan Projet's music as the main them…

With the Stade de France busy hosting the rugby sevens Paris has planned an innovative opening ceremony based along a 6km stretch of the Seine, with the athletes parading not at the end but at the start, and not on foot but on 94 boats, passing landmarks including the Louvre and Notre Dame before ending up at the Trocadéro for the main show, about which organisers have been tight-lipped. “France is Édith Piaf, it’s also opera, it’s rap, it’s a whole range of musical styles,” said Thomas Jolly, the creative director. “France is cheese, but it’s also the pretzel, and it’s also couscous.”

This to me reads like a "best of France" megamix - rap, Piaf, opera - and I think a bit of Oxygene 4 mimed behind a keyboard set up at the Trocadéro would fit in nicely! :D

JMJ played London Kid with Hank Marvin at the Trocadéro in 1989.

Celine Dion looks set to make her return to the stage at the Olympic Games, and it’s rumored to be during the opening ceremony on Friday.
Dion arrived in Paris on Monday at the Royal Monceau hotel near the Champs-Élysées, where Lady Gaga, another potential opening ceremony headliner, is also staying. Specific details about Dion’s performance are being kept under wraps.

I don't wonder JM would skip this opening event. This was a trans and pride show, full of lmbtq propaganda, even the Israelien team got whistled out. Finally a symbol against Christians.
So approximately everything was seen where the western society is about.

I didn't like the show, but I doubt that's the reason for JMJ not being there. He wrote a track, 'Glora, Lonely Boy' about trans people, he loves Wendy Carlos and his current favourite musician to collaborate, Adiescar Chase is openly bisexual.

I don't really get what people were expecting, he never ever said that he will be part of the Opening Ceremony. He talked about this twice this year.

At first, he said:
"When I saw the rather chaotic situation with my team, with Fiona, we said: okay, I've been involved indirectly previous projects linked with the olympics and it's such a complex and complicated - espiecially in my country - organisation. You know spend sometimes 2 years of your life just for something which is not exactly what you want to achieve, the fact is that we should never forget that the olympics are before anything else a sports event, where whatever you do from a creative point of view, as an artist, in music is just a small cherry on a big cake. And then, it's just a matter of decision for an artist to say: so you want to dedicate 2 years of your life - when you can do more exciting things - for a result which is going to be forgotten in a few minutes, hours, because the most important aspect of the olympics is sport and competition."

Then, a few months later he said:
"I'm involved with lots of different projects at the moment, preparing a tour, MAYBE something for the olympics, MAYBE. But I can't say more, I'm very busy at that time and that also keeps me fresh."

Based on these two interviews, I don't know why people thought that he will be part of yesterday's ceremony. It seems like he was asked to do something in the last minute, so maybe he will be part of the closing ceremony in some ways, but it's just a possibility, nothing more.

It's one thing I like trans, gay or whatever people individually, or wether I like an ideology or not, that forced to your face all the time.

Right, my point is: I doubt that originally JMJ wanted to be part of the ceremony, but decided to stay away for any reason. No, he never had any intention to basically waste so much time and energy to origanise his participation. I prefer him focusing on fantastic projects like Oxymore, Oxyville, Oxymoreworks, Versailles 400, Starmus, Francofolies in the last 2 years instead of him playing Oxygene 4, Epica Oxygene or Glory at a ceremony which is not even about music.

Opening ceremony so glad JMJ wasn't there. JMJ way too much a legend to play a bit part.
It's more for showcasing others.
They probably sought JMJ's advice on how to host 300K visitors spectators.

Closing ceremony probably for a party rave JMJ could be involved like 1998 after World cup.

JO Paris 2024: Tom Cruise, Marion Cotillard, Jean-Michel Jarre... Who for the closing ceremony?

Jean-Michel Jarre as part of a forty-minute show called "Records", which would promise to be dystopian.

My guess is if he does appear in person, it will be a short cameo, in the style of Live at Élysée Palace.... a shortened version of Epica Oxygene, mixed into an edit of RV4 and then he hands over to somebody else

So your prediction is actually 2 songs but shortened. Well this was really such a missed opportunity for a small 4-5 songs set, especially with that nice Eiffel tower laser-show and fireworks. There are definitely some rumors that confirms the involvement in some manner, so it will be interesting to see if we will get at least 1 song. There were also rumors of Daft Punk reunion...

This Olympic opening ceremony really lacked in all segments, except laser work, that was really nice...
