My guess is if he does appear in person, it will be a short cameo, in the style of Live at Élysée Palace.... a shortened version of Epica Oxygene, mixed into an edit of RV4 and then he hands over to somebody else

So your prediction is actually 2 songs but shortened. Well this was really such a missed opportunity for a small 4-5 songs set, especially with that nice Eiffel tower laser-show and fireworks.There are definitely some rumors that confirms the involvement in some manner, so it will be interesting to see if we will get at least 1 song. There were also rumors of Daft Punk reunion...

This Olympic opening ceremony really lacked in all segments, except laser work, that was really nice...

I'm just basing my guess on previous Olympic closing ceremonies when a mix of artists take part but none get more than a few minutes each, it seems. Organisers don't want it to be perceived as a certain type of concert, so they mix things up quickly and often. Happy to be proved, wrong! And a Daft Punk x JMJ performance would be absolument superbe!

My guess is that it's going to be like the UK's closing ceremony where all sorts of UK bands played a part of one of their famous songs... including Mike Oldfield (maybe his last live performance?) and lots more.

I don't understand why the Olympics haven't used Glory as a background track to promote the games. It's done by 2 great, popular French artists and it's olympic themed, a perfect sport anthem that is accessable, modern and fits pop standards.

The "internationally renowned" musical cast remains to be seen. The French Touch will be in the spotlight. According to our information, the groups Air and Phoenix (of which Victor Le Masne was the drummer for a while) will perform at the show, while the legendary Jean-Michel Jarre has designed a musical retrospective of fifty years of electronic music. David Guetta had been approached for this ceremony but his demands - notably to be accompanied by dancers - cooled the organizers.

Jarre has prepared some kind of musical retrospective as director. So this means less chances of him performing, at least an assumption. This will be some kind of a mix he made of electronic music? So if he is going to represent 50 years of music I wonder how long is it going to be, estimate might be from 10-20 min.

I was never that taken with Glory in its original form on the album, but the live version from both Bratislava and La Rochelle is fantastic and I agree, it would make a brilliant Olympic soundtrack. I remember chatting to Jote before the start of the Bratislava concert and I said I was disappointed that Glory was in the setlist and he said, don't worry, it's great.... and he was right! Live version is so so good.

Interestingly, BBC TV here in the UK used Midnight City by M83 on its teaser adverts for its coverage of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

You haven't heard the live version of Glory before the Starmus concert to know that? Didn't he play it a million times in the last decade, at every Electronica Tour concert, including the filmed Connection Concert? I definitely heard the live version many times before Starmus, I already imagned my self singing the 'wooo-ooo-oo' parts as JMJ is asking you to weeks before going to the concert, because I had a feeling he will play it.

I do agree that the live version is much better, but the album version is not bad either, it's a pop song with a 2010s sound the same way Rendez-Vous 4 is an 80s song. But being born in the mid 90s I actually became a huge Jarre fan in the summer of 2015 before the release of Electroncia 1, before that I only heard a few older tracks, so I have a kind of soft spot for everything related to Electronica 1. When Jarre said on his Instagram that him keeping up with the times and evolving his music earns him new fans and younger fans, well, I'm one of them. I love Oxymore too. I never would've found Oxygene or Magnetic Fields without him making Electronica 1, so I love his older and newer works at the same time.

Just listened back to my own recording of the Electronica Tour in London live from the O2 in October 2016 and he did indeed play the live version there too, straight after the Equinoxe 4 - Glory mash up which I had not remembered at all ... I'm losing my mind! © Brian May

Celine Dion and Lady Gaga are in a completely different league to JMJ and it was good enough for them, so I don't agree with this at all. I hope we see him at the closing ceremony.

They both had major parts to play not bit parts.

Can't compare Pop singing to Electronic instrumental music .... this means saying completely different league is an error.

JMJ is in his own field more significant than Celine and Gaga combined in their fields.

At least the title would be appropriate. Though based on the Opening Ceremony, they are not too focued on using French themed music. But I just love everything about that track so much, a perfect track from a perfect album, so yes, it won't happen, but I wish it could.
