What do you thing about that? Are there some differences between Polydor pressings of Oxygene 800 015-2 or another albums? Which pressing is the best? (800 015-2 01; 800 015-2 02; 800 015-2 03 .... ??)

I have never seen additional numbers like that on any albums... 800 015-2 and that's it. No 01, 02, 03. I think there's no difference, although I recently heard Japanese Polydor masters have better quality, although I find this unlikely and haven't checked it yet.

Actually the 01, 02, etc I believe is on the inner ring of the CD.

There are some RED Silkscreened Discs are also first pressings.
The 2nd pressing are the BLUE Disques w/FDM CD. Everyone thinks (as I thought) that they are the first pressing but I found out recently they are not.

Let's take for example Les Chants Magnetiques/Magnetic Fields:

The DCO was for exclusive French Pressings and started with Oxygene MCO 1000. So they are first pressings, but only for France. The Red and Blue Silkscreened are actually earlier pressings to these. Also I believe the DCO happened when the manufacturing plant changed to MPO...I think...

So the correct chronology would be

1st Pressing - Red Silk Screened
2nd Pressing-Blue Silk Screened
3rd Pressing - MCO/DCO (But 1st Pressing for France)
Then 800 024-2 with DCO 2001 on back, etc.


I have the Magnetique Fields RED Silk Screened CD and Digital Snake in Italy has a copy of the Concerts In China RED Silk Screened Double CD.

Also the "Inner Ring" of the Oxygene BLUE Silk Screened CD says 800 015-2 03
So there are probably othere versions even before this one but I'm sure SUPER rare.

Here is where it gets confusing:

ZOOLOOK
On ZOOLOOK...they did away with the red silk screened CDs so the Blue one IS the 1st Pressing with 823 763-2 01 for the one with the Remixes on it. The actual 1st Pressing of ZooLook is a Silver Polydor CD that looks just like all the other ones EXCEPT "NO Remixes", the number on the spine is not seperated by a black line and the "Inner Ring" of the CD says 823 763-2 "01"!


Rendez-Vous
By the time we get to Rendez-Vous, The DCO 2005 Edition (Does not have the 824 matrix at all...) with DCO 2005 MPO "01" on the "inner ring" of the CD is the 1st Edition of this CD and in fact it has First Rendez-Vous (part 1) as Track 1 and First Rendez-Vous (part 2) & Second Rendez-Vous (part 1) are Track 2 on this CD (only comes up when played..not listed on CD or booklet) so this is different than all other pressings of this CD
(As of this writing I'm 99.9% sure this is indeed the 1st Pressing of this CD).

I guess this is where we are getting into the Quantum level of Jarre Collecting... :P


P.S. The Japanese Polydors are actually MADE IN GERMANY... :wink:

I mean those inner rings numbers on CD. For me it is strange that (according to this article) there are some differences in different pressing of the same releases (800 015-2 for example).

I thought that first european CD factory was in Hanover in Germany and in Japan (Sony). You mean that Polydor produced Japan releases in Germany and send them to Japan? It is interesting!

BTW Polydors releases started with Numbers 800 xxx-2 (first was 800 011-2 Abba). It means that Jarre was in the first CD releases of Polydor ever!

Some web articles (somebody informs about Japan and Germany plants; another only about Germany plant):

At that time, there were two major plants, PolyGram's Hanover, West Germany plant, and Sony's plant in Japan. Lets make it more complicated, then there is also a silverdisc release from Magnetic fields.

i remember i bought this cd in the end 80s, and as far as I know this was the first release of this disk in the netherlands. but to stick to the discussion, i prefer the mastering of those
original Polydor releases. Seems not to over processed as the Sony re-releases...

and I agree here with you its Quantum Level now 8) :wow:

The silver CD and the 2nd red CD are identical. The 1st CD is mastered differently.
