I have never heard the album in 5.1 soundsystems, but the music is weird in earphones :) Try listen to Oxygene 4 through earphones.
The intro before Souvenir Of China gets annoying in earphones.

The best revamp on that album is, I think, Equinoxe 3, but I think he shoulda done it entirely on piano.

I have to say I disagree because I think he shouldn't go into "piano used only" tracks.

Not to mush unplugged... "Band in the rain" on a French streetorgan is nice, but too mush songs played on a streetorgan (or piano) is borig!

Greetzzz...

Yes, it's not that good to listen to with headphones. Not even the 5.1 mix... it's a bit of a merry-go-round experience. :P

Last night I listened to the album for the fisrt time in ½ year or so. Almost like a new experience. The first I liked was Aero (have always loved that track). Then it was Equinoxe 8 (small band in the rain). I love the thunder during that track. Souvenir of China is also one of the "highlights for me on the album. I actually also liked Equinoxe 4. Not that huge a difference between the original album and the version on Aero. But I like the track. Last Rendez-vous is also one of my favorites. Ans yes Chronology 6 is nice al always. Then I really like Safri Duo on the drums for RV4. Gives the track a new "feeling".

I really don't know about this album. I remember joining the Jarre(.net) community for the first time in 2003 and reading that a new studio as well as a compilation album were on works... the studio album becoming GoL and the compilation album estimated for a December 2003 release and finally released in August 2004.

And it sounded like it had been recorded in a scruffy paper bag. It was nice to hear that he hadn't forgotten Last Rendez-Vous... a shame what happened to Zoolookologie, though :P

A pity all of his concerts up to Merzouga sounded exactly like it (well, some exceptions and other tracks there and there)... which was very shameful indeed. But what really shocks me is that those days are in the past now. And it wasn't that long ago when I felt like they had been going on for too long :P

But it's still a pretty nice album and getting in touch with his fans to post all the photos was a really nice... touch :p:

Yet I have to say it would be really disappointing to hear the same AERO renditions again after the Oxygene 30th Anniversary craze winds down :p:

When I joined the jarre.net forum back in 2004, it was basically because of this album, so it still has a certain charm to it. I started collecting all his albums and almost forgot about AERO, as I liked the originals more. I still do, but the Aero album has it's own soul now :)
I listen more to the AERO version of MF1 than the original.
